Selfless love

selfless love

Conflicted by the emotions of my heart,

I should have known better from the start,

I should have known not to trust

And give you my heart.

Love is supposed to be selfless,

But you were selfish from the start.

You only cared about yourself

And the desires of your heart.

In all the books I've read, all the poems always said

That a heart is make to share

They also said that love is not a one way street

But should be reciprocated and in the end sweet.

But in reality it is way more bitter than sweet.

I was naive to ever think you would ever love me back,

I was naive not stupid but yet my heart still cracks.

I tried not to love you but how could I not?

We were made for each other

But you gave your heart to another.

Every kiss, every touch you shared I felt it.

I wasn't supposed to but the love I had for you was stronger than that of a mother

So every act of infidelity I felt it,

My heart would hurt like it was being ripped from my chest.

Didn't knew what the pain was until I saw the two of you together

And the betrayal I felt that day was greater than the hatred I have for another

And that's the man you call father

But in the end it was in your nature.

I knew I had to teach myself not to love you,

And I want to say thank you,

For you have turn me into a woman,

I've grown and I'm no longer naive to think that in the end you will have feelings for me.

No longer naive to think you would grow to love me.

That is why I let you go to find peace;

And let you love her the way you couldn't love me.

But in the end I will always love you.

Because in the end my love for you is selfless;

That is why I put your needs before mine;

And I let you go before my love for you becomes a crime.

And I could never be selfish,

Although you were created to be mine.
