you believe in equal rights except
women aren't oppressed anymore and
racism disappeared after the jim crow laws were abolished and
since gay people can marry, they're equal, what more do they want? and
trans people don't deserve to use the bathroom they identify with and
using correct pronouns is just so hard for you and
your second amendment right is more important than the lives of countless children and
teens should just be quiet and go back to eating their tide pods and
all lives matter and
bisexuality is just people being picky and
it's fine that queer people can still get fired for being queer in most of america
and, if bombs aren't being dropped in america, is it really happening? and
sure we still don't have clean water for flint but don't we have bigger issues and
if she didn't want to be raped then why was she dressed like that and
i know i'm white, but my boyfriend says i can say the n word and
maybe if you hadn't ostrchisized him he wouldn't have shot up that school and

we are dying.
we are dying at an alarming rate,
and people in power don't seem to care.
kids are dying on the daily, and politicians and government officials turn their heads,
cry their alligator tears,
collect their NRA cheque,
all while saying
"what a tragedy! thoughts and prayers are being sent to all the victims."
but, we're done with thoughts and prayers.
thoughts and prayers won't bring back by fellow students,
my fellow thespians,
my friends.
thoughts and prayers won't keep guns out of the wrong hands.
so when you say 'thoughts and prayers'
just remember
what you're really saying is
"sorry kids, we care more about our money than we care about your lives."

you want us to speak out for causes we care about.
but not like that, right?
you want us to get off our phones.
but not when it's because we're taking to the streets and protesting, right?
you want us to stop being lazy.
but not when we're practising activism, right?
you want us to
sit down,
shut up,
go home,
go back inside,
conform.
you're scared.
as you should be.
your generation has told us that we we're built for great things.
and you were right.
but when those great things don't meet the expectations you've set for us, you get mad.
but you don't get to choose how, or what, or why, or when.
our activism is not meant to appease you.
we refuse to be Silenced.
we refuse to Apologize.
We Are Unafraid.
