You tell me I'm pretty as if it's a compliment.
As if it's not a vast canyon,
a colossal void.
An insurmountable gorge
of understatement.
I do not want to be pretty.
I want to be brilliant. Honest.
Witty and kind.
But if you cannot find the words.
If pretty is clogging your throat
and filling your lungs. Swallow.
I would rather hear silence
than empty noise.
