(AN// yes it's overdone.
No I don't care.)
(Also not a lot of actual girl on girl stuff but whatever.)
My pencil scratches against the paper loudly, as I copy words from my horrifically boring textbook. I move my thighs close together, trying to hide my curves, getting restless.
The clock says 12:02.
Class is done at 12:30.
That's 28 minutes.
Rounded to 30.
All I have to do it wait ten minutes. Three times. Minus one minute as it took me about 60 seconds to count that.
That's about the most math I actually do in math class.
Looking back down anxiously,I read over what I haven't finished. For the love of god I just can't focus.
Too late.
The bell rings.
The sound of the bells applause rings through the class indicating it's lunch.
I pack up my books and decide I'll take them to lunch, I don't feel like stopping at my locker.
I go to my homeroom where we eat lunch in the winter.
"Izzy I swear to god you better have brought enough food to share."
Ah, the mating call of a wild hungry Emma. She's my best friend, she's wearing her iconic baggy, old hoodie and some leggings. Nike, her favourite.
I roll my eyes and slide in my seat, using my foot to kick it out from under the table, and hooking my ankle around the leg of my chair to bring it back in once I sit down.
"Of course, what do you take me for? Someone who only brings enough of their own lunch to feed them self? Unheard of."
I pass my black and white striped lunch back to Jaden who passes it to Emma.
She grabs out both of my Rice Krispie squares and passes it back.
"So guys, guess who had their CCVR today?"
I hear Lauren say from beside me. Other best friend. She's got suffocatingly straight hair and a small cute face. It all suits her.
CCVR is like, colour-something-virtual-reality. I can't really remember. It's what the 10th grades get to do in the fall. You go meet one of these visiting teachers and they show you colours in your head through this headset and basically just tell you the names.
No ones seen colour since like 2006 so only super old people knew the colours.
We know names but no colour to put to it.
So they started making these special vr headsets before their generation died.
"How was it Lauren?" I ask.
I did mine last year. I always thought yellow would be deeper and darker, like sadness. But nope.
I wonder if I'm wearing yellow.
"Oh it was lovely! I've decided purple is my favorite colour. We did the primaries, and the rainbow, but when we got to the colour wheel I was ecstatic!! There are SO many shades of purple! Violet, lavender, fuchsia and even some that look blue!"
I remember seeing the variations of colour. At first it was just blocky, simple colours. We saw more in the rainbow but using additives like black and white, you could make so many shades. It was incredible.
"So I get to pastels, hues and tints next week. They didn't want to shove all this brightness in my face right away."
"You are SO lucky!"
We hear Shay pipe up from the end of the table.
"I had to redo a year so they're making me wait? What does grade have to do with learning the colours anyways?"
"I don't know, but I can't wait for the day I meet my soulmate. Then I'll know what colour my hair is. I hope it's blonde!" I respond.
"I think it's probably light brown. It looks a little dark to be blonde. And anyways, you know that soulmate thing isn't true. My parents are happily married and neither of them can see colour."
Cameron says just trying to rain on my parade.
"Maybe your parents aren't soul mates. In love doesn't mean destiny!"
"Izzy, destiny isn't real. Nobody has seen colour by falling in love."
"That's because destinys rare!!! Like Clark!! He saw colour when he met Daniel!"
"He was gay and a stoner. Homosexuality isn't gods plan. So even if destiny was a thing, someone of the same sex couldn't be your soulmate. And he was always high, he wasn't seeing colour. He was tripping."
"Whatever. I still think it's real." I pack up my stuff and leave the lunch room.
I'll meet my soulmate. I know I will. And he'll have big purple eyes and blonde hair. Like a prince.
And then my vision blurred for a second. And I was at an intimate distance against the floor.
Hello ground.
"OH! Ohmygod! I am so sorry."
I look up and see a tall lanky girl with dark long hair, much less frizzy than my own forest of curls.
I mean it wasn't a long fall. I'm pretty short.
I grab her hand and try to get my orange hair out of my face.
Orange hair.
I squeal incredibly loud as the dozens of kids stare at me with varying levels of confusion and annoyance. I'm a red head!!! My great grandma said they were very rare but that my dad is one too and she use to be. It's like a golden red, like what I imagine love would look like as a colour. And the lockers are blue! A light blue, like calmness. And the kids around me! They all have colour! I feel blinded and dizzy. I start bouncing on my toes and smiling like a maniac I'm sure.
I look around trying to find the boy I must've touched.
I look at the taller girl, she has silky black hair that goes down to her torso. It's so dark but very warm at the same time. Shes brownish skin, she's just the epitome of warmth. She thin but looks soft. She's stunning.. Model pretty. Her outfit is still black and white though. Shes got a frilly white shirt that falling off her shoulders underneath a black pair of overalls. Shes staring at her arms in awe.
"Holy shit."
I hear her mumble under breath.
Wait.
"Can you see...the colours?"
I ask her. Is she..my? Oh I'm excited! She's beautiful. I keep saying that. This replaying thought. A girl. A beautiful girl. That I get to love forever? I mean I didn't think it'd be a girl but look at her! I'm so lucky! I know love is a strong word but she's my soulmate. It's basically planned out for me. This is so cheesy.
"Ohmygod."
She looks up her hair falling into place as she stares at me. We don't seem to sense the awkwardness.
The bell rings and kids hurry into classrooms but me and the girl just stand there. Staring at eachother.
I don't know what I'm supposed to do.
I move closer and hug her.
Awkward? I think. Height distance? A lot.
She is warm.
And everything's so colourful.
The colours everywhere are so pretty.
She's so pretty.
"I'm Israel." I say pulling back.
"Interesting name." She laughs.
"I'm Ally."
I look down at my feet.
Oh my god. my shoes are blue and my pants are bright green.
And I've got a brown and white shirt? With a pink hoodie.
I look fucking ridiculous.
