'Today is going to be a very special day.' I think this to myself as a roll over to check my phone before getting up to shower. In just a few short hours I will be meeting up with my long-time friend Jess who is coming up with her family from Vancouver! She used to live three streets up and one to the right, but ever since her parents got divorced she's had to leave. Today I will finally see her after 4 years! With that in my mind, I yank myself out of bed and head for a shower.

I pull into the West Edmonton Mall parking lot and walk inside. As it is a typical Friday afternoon in the the summer it is no surprise that the place is completely packed. How I'm ever going to find Jess in this mess is anyone's guess. But then I see a flash of red out of the corner of my eye, and spinning around fast I see her!
"Jess!!" I squeal in excitement, and that's got to be the first time I've squealed since I was what? 5?
"Katie!" She yells back, and before I know it I'm engulfed in a mess of strawberry blonde hair and vanilla scented perfume.
"Oh. My. Gosh! I can't believe you're actually here! We've got so much to talk about!"
"I know it's just crazy! I feel like an age has gone by!" Last time I saw Jess was June 3, 2013. At the time I thought it was just another Monday morning, but I had no idea that would be the last I'd see her for 4 years. At the time we were tiny little 12 year olds believing we were at the height of cool and completely oblivious to everything beyond a couple good looking guys in our class. Now we are 16. Oh so much can change in such short time.

After a couple hours of wandering around the mall gossiping endlessly about high school we decided it was time for lunch. Heading to the food court, we decided that we would share a box of chicken from KFC.
"I'll go find us a table, meet me in a few?" I ask Jess, she nods. Well this shouldn't be too difficult... turns out it was. Note to self: never under any circumstances try to find an open table in the food court at noon. I'm pretty sure it's physically impossible.
After a good two minutes of craning my neck like a lost ducking I spot 5 boys across the court chucking food wrappers at each other, and taking up at least 5 more tables than necessary.
"Excuse me, but is this really appropriate?" I ask them, I've always been the kid at school who follows directions and never gets in trouble, unfortunately my "teachers pet" attitude is coming out now.
"Sorry miss, but I fail to understand how anything I do is not appropriate." says a guy with brown hair with highlights, mimicking my tone.
"Shove it Rye!" says someone with blonde hair. I immediately register the British accent.
