A Little Bit Of Violet

The Stars that fell

It may look as if I am having fun at the back of this cramped up Hilux, but I am actually compressing those feelings of fear right at the back of my mind. Behind this smile I'm hiding in, is the fact that I'm missing home already.

Come on man. It's just your first day. Heck, it's not even the first day, you just got off the plane. Don't let them know. Don't let them know. They can't. Look at Kouseki. He looks happy.

These thoughts keep swirling in my mind. I am going to let this cramped space get a hold of me if I keep being pessimistic about this. I keep wondering, doesn't Kouseki miss his parents? How about his friends? Doesn't he wonder what they could be doing right now? I mean, I sure as hell do. This is my first international trip and I already miss hom-Ouch!

Just as I was pondering these thoughts in my mind, the Hilux hit a bump and it sent the eight of us in the car up in the air for a second. Unfortunately, because of my height I hit the celling. Hard. "I felt the food in me moved," I said, bearing a smile. Yuni and Nicole laughed. I'm sure everyone here is having fun, except me. Why can't I enjoy myself? Why do I keep worrying about my friends and parents? These immense amount of feelings is overwhelming me. How could I enjoy this? I can't even see the beauty of the desert that we are driving pass, thanks to all the haversacks squeezed behind here that it's even blocking my view.

"Hey, isn't it hard to enjoy the view with the haversacks blocking the in window? You can move 'em you know," said Kouseki. "Why don't you move it to my side here? I think I can fit another haversack here," he suggested.

His suggestion shook me out of the thoughts that are engulfing me.Then i remembered, I came here to gain some experience, so I can tell those stories to my classmates. "Yea thanks man. Now I can see the view," I said while passing Mr Heng's back to him. Ah, how do you do this,Kouseki? You are truly amazing. I then rummaged through my day bag to get my ipod. I plugged in the earphones and played 'My dearest'. The scenery past the window is truly stunning. Nicole keeps taking photos of the picturesque scenery. "Hey, the clouds look orangish, doesn't it? Even the sky looks like it's camouflaging to the desert , just barely thou,"Yuni said. It sure is, the sky looks as if it's bleeding through the horizon pouring its' colors into the desert. Combined with the seemingly cloudless sky, it sure is something. As the scenery changes slightly continuously bit by bit, I can't help but be excited for the rest of the trip. With Mr.Nobuaki snoring, it was impossible to rest our eyes in the car, combined with the bumpy ride. I just blasted the music in my earphones to drown out the snoring noise. I looked through the window, watching the scenery change from a calm evening to a starry, starry night. I mean, the reason we came to Mongolia was for comet Hyakutake. It is going to fly past Ulaabantar at around 2am in the morning later.

Somewhere along the journey, I dozed off. Yea, even with Mr. Nobuaki's obnoxious snoring. I must be pretty jet lagged from the connecting plane rides. When I came to consciousness, we were at a suburban area with a vast area of land. The only thing that was there were two traditional Mongolian gurt and the gurt owner. "Come on Itsuki, we have reached our destination. Get your stuff and go pick your bed in the gurt,"Mr Heng instructed. I got my haversack from the back of the Hilux and went into the gurt. There were eight beds surrounding the fireplace as I went in. There was no kitchen, no toilet and surely no sockets to charge my phone. I guess the owner is cooking for us then. Once I was done unpacking, I stepped outside the gurt and looked up. The sky was filled with star constellations and colours beyond description. The stars hanging above me across the pitch black sky is truly stunning, like a chandelier dimly lit hanging across the sky.

"Oiiiiii. Are you done unpacking or not ,Kouseki? I might wait for you, but the scenery might not. Come on man,"I told him when I peeked into the gurt."Alright, alright, I'm coming. I'm almost done, "he replied. We then got out of the gurt and found a patch of grass to lie on to enjoy the scenery.

"Hey, why didn't you gave me the haversack earlier in the car? I saw that you were not happy about it,"Kouseki asked.

"Eh, how did you know?! I-I wasn't upset about it,"'

"Come on. Even a blind guy could see the emotions shown on your face. We have been friends since three man. I even know what is the color of the underwear you're wearing,"

"O-o-ok then.what color i-,"

"Blue,"

"How do you know?!"

We went back and forth like that, ever since three years old until now. There was no boundaries between us. Anything I knows , he knows. We went on for quite awhile, from the stars in the sky until the breast size of Yuni and Nicole. Hey, we are teenage boys,it's only natural we talk about these things right? We talked as if time was not in the equation anymore, and our worries were left behind, only silly and funny memories were shared throughout the night. "Hey, that's Hyakutake. I completely forgot about time. I was supposed to wake up Mr.Nobuaki and the others to start taking shots of it. Shit,"realized Kouseki as he started running towards the gurt. Hey, is it me or is the comet getting bigger? Once it hit me, I sat up straight and yelled as loud as I can to Kouseki.

"KOUSEEKKKIII. THE COMETS. IT'S GOING OFF COURSE.I THINK IT'S GONNA LA-,"

In a few seconds , everything happened so fast. One time I was seeing Kouseki running to the gurt. Next thing I knew, all I saw was the sky and loud thump.

And everything went black.
