Merlin's pov

" ugggggghhhh! Arthur why are we out here again!?" I asked, I was exhausted and cold.

" don't be an idiot Merlin!" Arthur said holding back a smile. " we're hunting, I told you that."

" yes but why are we so far from Camelot?" There's no point!" I said, still annoyed, my socks were now damp, which as we all know, makes everything worse. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye he saw it. It was golden and spry, and exactly what Arthur was here for.
We chased the doe through the woods, until at last Arthur landed the fatal blow. as if on queue, as soon as the doe's heart stopped a women appeared. She was tall and radiated the same golden light as the doe.

"Why have you hurt this innocent?" Asked the women, her tone, oddly pleasant.

" We were hunting, when I caught sight of this doe, it seemed like a target that would be prized, so I pursued." Arthur said. The women then turned to...me.

"I am surprised that you would allow this young one." She said, a twinge of disappointment in her voice. "I expected....more." My stomach sank as she said this. I should have stopped him. I could see that it was a magical creature, I should have stopped him. What was I doing.

"I am afraid your destiny shall not be as foretold. For you see, anyone who kills this innocent, must suffer the same fate." Her face was stern now. My mind started racing, what did that mean?

" You shall suffer as she suffered, awake, and afraid." She disappeared as she spoke the last word, and Arthur cried out falling to the ground clutching his shoulder.

Arthur's pov

The pain was radiating through me, ripping through my veins, yup that was definitely an arrow to the shoulder, just without the arrow. Merlin was standing there in shock, being completely useless, until he meet my eyes and seemed to come out of it. He looked horrified, like he had just witnessed his own death.

"Merlin don't just stand there!" I yelled, not bothering with a friendly tone, "I'm bleeding out."

Merlin's pov

I ran to him, tearing off a piece of my shirt to wrap around his shoulder. as soon as I finished that I started searching around the forest floor for some yarrow, to disinfect the wound. What do I do. This was magic, would yarrow even work? It had to. I found the weed and made a salve. After dressing the wound I set up camp and made a fire. Arthur was silent.

"Maybe we should have just stayed home and knit something." He said, trying to make light of the situation. I didn't want to but I smiled.

"Well if you weren't such a prat, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess." I said, poking at the fire.

" Don't be such an idiot Merlin, something like this was bound to happen." he said, " It always does."

I was tired, but couldn't sleep until I knew he was, part of the perks of being a servant.

" You should rest." I said trying to hold back a yawn.

" I'd love nothing more Merlin, but it seems, I cannot." His tired eyes met mine.

" What do you mean?" I asked.

"I already tired to sleep, my mind is tired, and my body is tired, but I cannot sleep. I think it must have something to do with her curse. That awake nonsense or something. Don't worry about it, you sleep."

Arthur's pov

Merlin sat there furrowing his brow at me. Studying me as if I were a riddle he could not figure out.

"Merlin... you are making me feel uncomfortable, go to sleep, well deal with this in the morning." I said, trying to make him feel better about this. Truth was, I didn't think I would make it through the night. I could feel the blood leaving me, and it was getting colder. Merlin's eyes didn't leave me though. His hands were shaking.

" You are getting worse." He said, worry etched into his brow.

" Merlin, I'll be fine." But I could feel myself getting weaker and, I'm not sure how, but Merlin could tell. His breath quickened at this point, and his hands started shaking.

"Merlin calm down, please, your making me nervous. If I die here then I die here, just.... tell Gwen you know..." He was shaking his head now, and would not meet my eyes.

"Oh I hope this works.." He said in almost a whisper. "Forp Fleoge" His eyes did not meet mine, but that sounded a lot like.... no... no couldn't have been, just some nonsense.

"no.." The despair that filled his voice when he said this was almost tangible, it fell off of him like a cape.

"Merlin, what was that, are you just talking to yourself now?" I asked getting more nervous by the second. He only looked at me, his eyes filling with tears. Then he laughed. Not a true laugh, a hollow, bitter laugh.

"figures." he said. " Of course, you can't be nocked out, naturally, why would this be easy?" He was talking to himself now.

Merlin's pov

I thought my heart was going to run out of my chest. He couldn't sleep, he couldn't be nocked out, not even with magic. If I was going to try and heal him, which I had to do or he'll die, he had to be awake for it. I could feel my whole body shaking now. This wasn't how I wanted him to find out. Ok I was hoping he never found out, but this was far to soon. He looked at me, confused, and pale. It had to be now.

"Arthur...." I said, my voice was even shaking. " you need to be healed." I said slowly.

" Yes Merlin." he answered in a slow mocking voice. " That's why we will go home tomorrow to Gaius." I looked away.

"Gaius would say..." I took a deep breath, " That a would inflicted with magic, can only be cured with magic..." I still couldn't look him in the eye. My heart was racing so fast, I felt dizzy.

"....I know..." He said. I was surprised.

I sad there scared to death of what I knew I had to do.

" Arthur, you need to promise me something." I said.

"ha! well I'm not sure how long I have to keep a promise but i'll try." He said, in a mocking laugh.

"No Arthur!" I said, looking into his eyes now. " I need you to promise me!"

Arthur's pov

He was shaking. he looked like a boy being lead to his death. I had never seen him so scared. He was crying now.

"What do you need me to promise merlin?" I asked, serious now. He took a deep breath, but it didn't stop the shaking.

"You once said that you were my friend." He said, avoiding my eyes again. "I have risked my life for you, and you for me..... promise me that you won't forget that." He said.

" Why would I forget that merlin?" I asked confused. What was he so scared of? he sat there, looking at me, and I swear the blue of his eyes had gone darker. his face fell into resolution.

"I have to heal you." He said.

"Merlin, we were just over this." I said, relived. talk about a build up to nothing. " You even said, a would inflicted with magic, can only be healed with magic." I laughed. He did not. His eyes only met mine, sorrow filly them.

" I'm sorry." He whispered. " Purhhaele dolgbeen" he said, and his eyes went gold.
