Naomi! Ayaka thought. She's in trouble!!!
"Stay here, Nana!" Ayaka ordered as Nana snored in response, running just to where she was out of sight of the three adults at the elevator door.
"Are you sure it was her?" The woman that had been up front asked.
"Yes!" The man said. "I saw her with my own two eyes! My daughter was here!"
"Her parents!" Ayaka gasped.
"Let's check all the floors!" The librarian suggested.
Oh no you don't! Ayaka thought determinedly. Not before I do! She acted quickly and bolted out of her hiding position. Her feet pounded against the carpeted doors and attracted the adults' attention.
"Is that her?!" The blonde, female librarian asked the couple. The mother shook her head, "No. But I think I saw that girl somewhere before..."
"Shouldn't she be in school?" The librarian asked.
"We'll worry about her later!" The father snapped. "I want to find my daughter!"
Naomi looked over her shoulder as she ran into a hallway with a marbled floor. The elevator doors opened and they quickly filed in. They were gonna find Naomi faster than her if she didn't hurry.
The hallway she was in had tiled floors, unlike the floors in the library, and had several doors made for staff members only. There was an exit just behind the long staircase to her right. Having no time to waste, Ayaka quickly bounded up the steps.
Nana yawned and opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was a man staring at her who was sitting at the table next to her. Had he been staring at her in her sleep also? This thought creeped her out and she sleepily looked around to find her sister, who would surely comfort her at this moment. But she was no where to be found.
"Hey, there." The man said in a kind voice. "Are you by yourself?" Nana stared at him for a moment before looking around to find that nobody was near them at the moment. She also had no idea where Naomi and Ayaka were.
"I think so...." Nana answered wearily before yawning.
Naomi jumped out of the elevator just as its doors flew open. She had frantically pressed several buttons, and the first one belonged to the highest floor, of what seemed to be a computer room. There was a few people at the computers, but the computers looked weird, more like screens built into the tables. "I've never went this far up, before..." She said to no one in particular. The little number of people's attention were on their screens, and most of them had headphones on. The whole room was a plain white, and she immediately searched for places she could hide. But there were none. It was a dead end!
Ayaka bounded up the rest of the way up the stairs until finally she made it to the top. She stopped and took a few seconds to catch her breath. Those few seconds did little, because she was still panting when she ran into a hallway. The hallway had a gray carpeted floor while the library's was red, and on the beige walls hung paintings.
"I thought all libraries had was books...." Ayaka said to no one in particular as she eyed the paintings, forgetting all about the rush she was in.
"No parents with you, no nothin'?" The man asked, smiling kindly at the girl as she sneezed once again.
Nana didn't know if he was just concerned for her, or if he was a creep. She wiped her runny nose with the back of her slightly pale hand. Where was Naomi and Ayaka? Should she go looking for them?
