Chapter one

Monday, 08/09/17, 6:22 am

      "Why the hell is the water so cold here!?" I asked as I stepped back towards the shower wall. I'm usually used to the scolding hot water back in Houston but I guess this is what I have now. I eased my way closer to the ice water and eventually embraced it. I let out a quick yelp when the water made contact with my skin.

    The temperature of the water now felt warmer and I could finally take a sensible shower. I grabbed a bottle of Bath and Bodyworks shower gel and lathered up. Fifteen minutes into my shower I heard a faint knock on my bedroom door. I turned the shower off and listened closely.

     Knock...Knock...Knock. "Riley mom said we're leaving in half an hour so get out the shower NOW!" My little brother Rome said then left. I was just about finished in here anyway so that didn't matter. I turned the shower back on and rinsed away the leftover suds from my body. When I was done I stepped out of the shower and dried my feet and legs before wrapping myself in a towel. 

     Back in my bedroom, my phone dinged as notifications came in. I sat on the edge of my bed and picked it up to see who was messaging me.

Tayla❤️: Boo! I hope you aren't Nervous 

Tayla❤️: I know this your first day at a new school but you a bad bitch. No worries. 

     I smiled as I read the text from my best friend back in Houston, she never ceased to make me smile.  I quickly replied.

Me: I'm sorta nervous but nothing major. I got this tay tay. 

Me: I'll tell you about my day later but I have to get dressed like right now. Mwuah love you.

      I turned my phone off and put it back down on my bed then moved over to my dresser. I got some underwear and a bra and put them on along with deodorant before moving over to my closet. I had no idea what to put on and it was already 7 o'clock.  I hastily decided on a white crop top and a pair of black leggings along with my infamous all red chucks. I completed my outfit with a jean jacket.

       I went back into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, not missing a spot. I spit the suds out my mouth and rinsed. I smiled into the mirror admiring how beautiful my teeth were. I took a shot of mouthwash and swashed it around my mouth before spitting it into the sink. I took a deep breath and went back to my bedroom where I sprayed on some perfume.

     I took my phone off charge and grabbed my backpack from the corner and headed downstairs. I went into the kitchen and saw my little brother Rome on his phone and eating some bacon. My mother was at the stove making pancakes and my little sister Riya was sitting in her high chair playing with the corners of the plastic table. 

    Rome was fourteen.
