KRYPTON
THE HOUSE OF EL
"Kara! Kara, honey, wake up and get dressed!" Alura hollered down the main hall towards Kara's room. Her voice echoed on the tile-like walls of the castle where the El dynasty lived.
The El's were the longstanding leaders of Krypton. Their castle overlooked the beautiful planet, as far across the horizon as the eye could see. The light of the red sun above them eclipsed off of the tall, glass and metallic buildings on the view below and radiated a red sunshine throughout the entire planet.
Kara opened her eyes, awakening to the sound of her mothers voice. She rose up, taking in the scent of her favorite breakfast in the air. Smiling, she got out of her bed and put on her white, silk dress. she zipped up the back and turned around toward the mirror to admire her family's symbol on the front of the dress. it was stitched right above where her heart was, fitting for Kara, because of how much she loved, respected, and appreciated her family, her parents, her little cousin Kal. they were always with her, always in her heart.
Kara walked over to her window, admiring the view before her. she watched the citizens of the planet going about their day down below. she loved observing her people, having happy, normal lives. she loved her planet. she loved everything about it. the people, the culture, the peace.
after saying her morning prayer to Rao, Kara headed down stairs to the dining room, towards the beautiful smell of pancakes being made. her favorite breakfast in all of the galaxy. when she walked into the dinning room she was welcomed by her mother and father with smiles and the usual 'good morning sweetheart' from both of them. she gave them both a kiss on the head as she made her way to her chair.
"Good morning" she said as she sat down. "is that smell what i think it is??" she asked softly, smiling. Alura looked at Kara with a smile, "what ever do you mean?" she said teasingly, slightly giggling now. "oh I just mean the BEST FOOD IN ALL THE GALAXIES!!" Kara played along with her mother, laughing. "oh THAT smell.....yeah that's pancakes" she smiled. Kara threw her napkin in the air and cheered, getting laughs from both of her parents.
As the family sat there, eating their pancakes and having their usual conversations of the morning, Kara could feel something was off. it was like the sound of a bee buzzing in her ear, relentless and annoying. she couldn't explain why she felt this way, but something was going on. Alura noticed the look on Kara's face. she knew that look all too well. "Honey, is everything okay?" she asked softly, understandingly. "Yes, everything is okay, its just- I cant explain it I- im not sure. is everything okay with you two? i just feel like there is something you need to say but aren't. i dont know. nevermind, its just my imagination." kara said, and went back to eating. she'd just try to ignore the annoying buzzing.
"No honey, you are right. there is something we need to tell you." Zor-el said, looking at his wife. Kara noticed a look on her fathers face, one she hadnt seen since she was a child. it held a hint of guilt and anxiety behind it. just like the time he had told her that he needed to go away for a week on a diplomatic trip to a neighboring planet. he never told her what planet, just that it was a very important trip, a peace trip.
"Kara, did you hear me?" Zor-el asked.
"What? oh sorry no, what did you say?" Kara said, snapping out of her daydream.
"We were trying to tell you that we have a big announcement." Alura smiled. "We are going to have visitors later today. and you need to be on your best behavior honey. because, after almost 5 years, your father and i have managed to settle a peace agreement."
"well okay, that's good! why do you both seem so nervous?" she questioned.
her parents looked at each other. her anxiety growing as the seconds ticked by. "Mom, Dad, whats going on? who are the visitors?"
"They are the rulers of daxam, honey. and they are bringing their son, the prince. Kara, you and the prince must get along if we are to ever have peace between our planets. the biggest and most important part of the peace treaty, involves you and their prince."
Alura stopped, hesitant to continue. hesitant to finish the last part of the treaty. She knew that saying it, would change everything. her relationship with her only daughter, if there was a relationship after what she was about to say.
"Kara, you need to get along with the prince because, soon, you will be engaged to marry him. for the peace of our planets."
and with those words, Kara's world melted away.
