Deception

Chapter 1: Kylah Jones..

My name is Kylah Jones. I'm just a 16-year old high school student trying to graduate just like every other high schooler. I'm not normal, or at least that's what everyone else says. I've been bullied almost all of my life. I'm not as pretty as Tayler Green, Kayla Cruz, or more importantly, the "sexiest girl in school", Jasmine Washington. All of them are friends and they all have one thing in common: I'm their target. It's honestly frustrating. They've been picking on me since middle school. No matter how many times I report it to the administrators, they still don't stop.

Mr. Clark: Kylah, are you ok?

Jasmine: Of course she's not.

Mr. Clark: No one asked you Jasmine. And just because of your outburst, see me after class. Now Kylah, are you ok?

Kylah: Yeah.. sorry Mr. Clark. I'm just not feeling the best.

Mr. Clark: Would you like to go to the clinic?

Kylah: No. Can I just put my head down?

Mr. Clark: Alright. Well as I was saying-

(Bell Rings)

Mr. Clark: Ok class I'll see you tomorrow. Jasmine I have something for you.

As I was walking out the classroom, I saw Mr. Clark handing Jasmine a detention slip. I made my way to the cafeteria. I honestly hated it there. I'm not a fan of big crowds and the cafeteria was always packed. I normally get my lunch and go to an area where I can be alone. That's normally my routine. Not today though. While I was standing in line, the craziest thing happened..

Jaden: Hey Kylah.

Kylah: Me?

Jaden: (laughs) That is your name, right?

Kylah: (laughs nervously) Yeah I guess so. Wait- that is my name. What am I talking about? I'm sorry.

Jaden: (bursts out in laughter)

Kylah: I should've known better. You're just here to laugh at me just like everyone else.

Jaden: No.. not at all. I'm laughing because you're cute.

Kylah: Sure.

Jaden: I'm serious. I wanted to check on you. You said you weren't feeling well. Are you sick? Is everything okay?

Kylah: Yeah it's just.. Jasmine. She's been picking on me since middle- you know what. I'm sorry. You didn't ask me for all of that. I'll just go.

Jaden: No.. Kylah.

I hurried away to my area. I didn't want to flood him with my problems.. I mean he's Jaden White. The most popular guy in school. And the sexiest. He doesn't have time for me and my problems. Besides, I'm not good with conversation anyway. They always end on an awkward note thanks to me of course. The bell rung and I rushed to get to my final class. As I walked in class, I looked at the board and saw that it was a free period. I put my earbuds in and fell asleep to Gorillaz.

(Bell Rings)

I made my way to the car loop. Right before I got in the car, I was stopped by Jaden.

Jaden: Kylah, what happened earlier?

Kylah: I'm sorry Jaden. I just didn't think you wanted to hear about my problems. I mean you probably have other cool things to worry about.

Jaden: "Cool things"? (laughs) What exactly are "cool things" Kylah?

Kylah: I wouldn't know.

Jaden: Look, I'm not like everyone else. No matter what it looks like. I actually care. I know we just met but still.

Kylah: Thank you Jaden but trust me, I'm just a grenade. You don't wanna be around me when I explode.

Jaden: Kylah, I wanna get to know you. I want to be what it seems like you don't have.. And that's someone you can go to when you're down. Just let me.

Kylah: Okay Jaden. Thank you so much.

Jaden: Here. Put your number in my phone.

Kylah: Don't blow my phone up.(laughs) Just kidding.

Jaden: I'll text you later ok? I gotta go catch the bus.

Kylah: Ok.

I was so happy.. For the first time since I don't know when. Finally, someone that won't pick on me. Someone other than my parents that actually cares. I got in the car.

Mom: Sooo who's he?

Kylah: He's just a boy Mom.

Mom: Well he's a cutie. He wouldn't be just a boy if I were you.

Kylah: (laughs) Mooooom stop!!

We got home and I did the usual. Change clothes, did homework, etc. I waited on Jaden to text me. I figured he wouldn't text me immediately after school so I watched YouTube videos until he did. I waited and waited.. But he never did text me. I should've known it was too good to be true.
