A/N: I don't normally write scary or any kind of creepy stories, but I thought I'd try it out for a bit. This first one is loosely based on IT, bongcheon dong ghost, and some of R.L. Stine's stories. Enjoy!
Late one night, a high school student named Sarah was walking home from a late-night study session with her friends. Like usual, she crossed 54th street, went to 32nd street, took a right, and kept walking. She would take a left as soon as she was met with the sewage grate.
When she made it to the grate, Sarah heard a noise unlike any she had ever heard before. It sounded like someone was moaning. Sarah stopped and looked around. She heard the moaning once more. Why would someone be moaning like that out on a public sidewalk? She listened in on it. It sounded like someone was hurt.
"Hello? Who's there?" Sarah asked, putting her hand to her pocket for her phone.
The noise continued, getting louder every time. Sarah was getting worried. Was that person dying? Were they really hurt?
Just when she thought she should turn around and leave the scene, she noticed that the noises might have been coming from the sewer. In a fit of being scared but also being curious, Sarah decided she would look into the sewer using the flashlight on her phone. She trudged closer and closer to the grate, looking back every step.
Upon flicking on the light, she discovered a horror she thought she'd never see in her lifetime. What she saw was the body of a young, disfigured girl on the other side of the grate. Terrified, Sarah sat in shock, but she was too into the sight to look away. She didn't know whether to call someone or run home.
She heard the moaning start in again. It was indeed coming from the young girl, as Sarah had guessed previously.
"Hey, are you okay? Do you need help?"
The moaning silenced. All of the sudden, the girl's head whipped around to look at Sarah. The face looked oddly like her very own sister, but she knew her sister had to be home already eating dinner with the rest of the family. Her face was covered in blood. There was no way to truly make out how exactly she looked.
"Wh- who are you?"
The girl finally spoke, but in monotone with a deep, raspy voice, "I am no one, and you are no one. We are all no one. You know what I want, Sarah."
"No I don't, and... how do you know my name?"
"I know everyone and everything you know, Sarah."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"You know what I mean. Give me your soul, Sarah. I need it! I need it, Sarah!"
The girl reached out her bloodied hand to the grate. Her fingers were disfigured and broken. She grabbed at the grate in one quick motion, causing Sarah to jump out of her skin a bit. The girl's body stayed in the same place. She would only move her limbs.
"I cant give you what you want," told Sarah with a shaking voice.
The girl stared at Sarah for a moment, peering into her eyes with the blankest stare someone could give. She could tell the girl was not the slightest bit happy with what she just said.
"Well, then you can DIE!"
The girl ripped the grate from its hinges. Sarah turned around and began to run in a full sprint to get away. The last thing Sarah remembered was turning her head back, only to see an object flying towards her at full speed.
Sarah awoke on the street moments later. She saw no signs around her of anything out of the ordinary. She thought she might've hit her head and fallen over, only the have a horrific nightmare about a girl in the sewer.
To her horror, her parents were sitting at the dinner table crying when she returned. Her mom had a handkerchief in one hand and was grabbing her dad's shirt in the other.
"Mom, dad, what happened?" Sarah asked.
"Today they went on a school field trip." Her mom was sniffing up her tears, trying to explain what happened. "They went on a field trip, and little Annie, she- she... fell off of a balcony."
"Oh my God, that's awful! Is she okay?"
Her dad spoke up, "she passed away. They said she had too many broken bones, and she fell directly on her legs."
Maybe her nightmare wasn't as fake as she thought after all.
