The doorbell rang. Within seconds, a tall man stumbled towards the white, wooden door, patches of their original brown color breaking through. He straightened his simple, black tie along the way. He didn't know whether he had actually succeeded picking a matching outfit, but the doorbell suggested that he was out of time. There was no need to check who was standing behind the door, which was the reason why he swung the door open with a big, forced smile on his face.

"Sammy! Jess!" He exclaimed, stepping out of the way to make room for his two visitors. The tall male - even taller than the owner of the apartment - greeted him with a short hug and a slap on his back. The single man hugged the female more delicately, due to the swollen stomach that was causing difficulties. Both the visitors greeted him as well, genuine smiles on their faces.

"I see you haven't changed at all," Sam Winchester said, looking around his older brother's messy apartment swiftly. The smile on the man's face faltered, but he recovered quickly before Sam or Jessica could notice his insecurities. He shrugged, walking towards the fridge.

"What can I say? I'm very conservative. Do you want something to drink?" he asked, holding up a beer towards Sam. That familiar pity was back in his brother's eyes, and the male was having a hard time seeming enthusiastic. He dropped one of the two bottles and put it back before undoing the lid of his own.

"Dean, you know I'm the driver and Jess is pregnant. No alcohol for either of us tonight," Sam explained, raising his eyebrows in a warning manner. Dean shrugged again, taking a sip of his beer. "Anyways, where is Lisa?"

"She couldn't make it." The older man glared at his younger brother, hinting him to drop the subject. Jessica, who had taken a seat on the couch, sighed loudly, catching the two brother's attention.

"I actually thought you were happy with her," she said, looking at him sadly. Whatever was left of his smile, had faded completely and a frown took over on his face. He didn't even notice when he shrugged again.

"So did I. Apparently, she thought banging a random, leather jacket wearing biker behind my back wouldn't change things. Imagine her surprise when she turned out to be pregnant and she knew it wasn't mine," Dean said, raising his beer bottle with pursed lips before chugging half the bottle at once. Sam scratched the back of his neck.

"Jesus, man. I'm sorry," the younger, yet taller brother said. It was obvious that he felt awkward and Dean understood why he acted that way. Dean simply didn't express emotions, and Sam had always had trouble knowing how to act when something bad happened to his older brother because of this
