It's just a normal rainy day at downtown New York City. Life is considered to be a routine for a 45 years old journalist father, Dave, and his daughter Jasmin . They live in a quite small apartment at NYC. Jasmin is just a normal teen who enjoys hanging out with her friends and shopping. Unfortunately she was leaving alone with her father because her mother died in her birth. She feels lucky that she has her father, he is there for her whichever her problem is, he can help her even with stupid boy problems, so she feels blessed having him by her side.
Jasmin's birthday has come, it's 14th of May, she is finally 14 years old, a very significant stage of her life. If Jasmin was a normal teenager, as she considers herself, she would enjoy every single one birthday that she has done. But no, her birthday is a freaking nightmare,14th of May at 2002 her mother passed away, so she cant find any reason to be happy this day, when her mother left this world. She will do whatever she cant to forget her birthday. She will turn off her sms notifications and her mobile phone too. She has even asked her family not to bring her gifts. She tries to act like its a normal day. This day every year the phone never rings, someone unknown number is calling the phone at her house, she believes that it's just an annoying relative like her aunt Margaret. So she decides to pick up the phone:
-Hello?; she said with the most cheerless way that she could ever say that.
-Jasmin Smith there? ; was a weird deep manly voice. She imagines that he's one of her dad's friends or colleagues. But how he knows her short name?
In just second she has thought all about this man, who he could be and what he wants. She finds the courage to talk back :
-Yes, Jasmin Smith; and with a little irony she adds: With whom I have the special honor to talk with?
-You dont need to know nothing about me, who I am or what I want. The only thing that you need to know is that I know things about your life that you could never learn about your own self
Jasmin has sweat and is speechless, that she cant even remember her own name. She can't talk, she can only hear what this weird man has to say to her,who he is definitely not one of her dad's friends or colleagues...
-The only thing that I want you to do is to meet me at Central Park, tomorrow at 7 oclock near the big lake .Is your favorite place, right ?You go every Sunday with your father, dont you? Maybe we will talk a little bit about your mother, if you come...
Jasmin was so terrified, how a completely stranger could know so many personal information, it's like he has been watching her for her whole life.
-II do not know, I guess I could, but I dont know you:
she said when she managed to gather enough courage.
-You dont need to know me, just trust me and let me tell you things that nobody else has ever told to you.
What Jasmin should do? She has no idea who this man could be. But he knows things about her mother, things that she wants to know, but she didn't ,because her father hardly ever talks about her, maybe because he didn't knew enough thing that could make sense...The only thing he knew is that his wife, Stella, died when Jasmin was born. Her death was very mysterious; nobody knew what really caused her death...
It is time for Jasmin to answer, but she doesn't know what to say:
-I will come.
-OhHappy birthday too.
Automatically the phone stops....Her father comes in from work,he seems so tired that he goes straight to bed...Walking through his bedroom, he whispers her:
-Happy birthday princess.
She didn't hear him, she couldn't hear anything, she was frightened and speechless. In a few hours he will meet a person who claims that he knows things about her mother. She knew that it was time for her to learn the true and for her father too...
