A/N: Short fluffy chapter :3 Also, here we see Endarin's telepathic connection thing advancing. Of course she'd use it to contact Fili XD

_____________

Aren't couples supposed to have nicknames? Fili's thought made me giggle as I stared at the crackling fire in front of me, a sleeping Legolas. I quickly stifled my giggle. I'd have to be silent if I didn't want to wake Legolas. His heightened senses were strong, even for an elf. It wouldn't take much to wake him.

Human couples perhaps... I trailed off. It was true. As a dwarven prince and a formerly-brainwashed shape shifter, elf mix, Fili and I were an unlikely couple, if you could even call us that. What were we? Friends? More then friends? Certainly, there was a spark between us. Either way, I decided to reply. What would mine be? I asked him, sending the thought through.

Probably Assassin Wolf. Fili joked before asking, What would mine be? I was thinking along the lines of Strong Handsome Dwarf .

Hardly, I snorted. What about Troublesome?

And how am I troublesome?

You got yourself captured by Woodland Elves. I retorted, but my tone was light. I was joking. I didn't think I actually could get angry at the handsome strawberry-blonde prince. He had a cute smile, one that erased any fury from my mind. That's pretty careless and troublesome, if you ask me.

To be fair, we were captured by spiders first. He direct any thoughts to me for a while. It took so long I was starting to get worried. Had Thorin found Fili alone and asked what he was doing? I knew Fili was too honest to lie, especially not to his uncle. He'd tell Thorin that we were communicating using my newfound telepathic abilities. If possible, it would anger the dwarf even more. However it seemed I was just worrying for nothing, as I then received a question from Fili. Seriously though, what would my nickname be?

I thought for a bit. Waernnyü. I finally decided.

What does that mean?

It's a word in the language of the ancient skin-changers, I replied. Waernnyü - pronounced WARN-new. It can mean golden-haired or golden-hearted. I paused. In your case, it fits perfectly in both ways. Immediately after I thought it I wished I could take it back. Would Fili think I was too... cliché? Would he think I was pressing him, perhaps hoping for a more intimate relationship...?

But even though I couldn't see him, I could tell he was smiling when he replied, And I think I'll nickname you Kshifvel.

Normally, Ancient Dwarvish sounded harsh and sharp. However when Fili said it, he made it sound soft and sweet. And what does that mean? I asked softly, closing my eyes.

It can't be directly translated, but roughly? Woodland treasure.

Did he really think of me like that? As a woodland treasure? The thought made me smile, and bite my lip in happiness. As I did, I found myself slowly drifting off to sleep. I was tired.

Endarin? Fili's soft voice made me stir. Are you okay? Still here?

Sorry. Still here. Just tired.

Okay, then rest. I'll be here in the morning.

Sleep well, Fili. Were my last thoughts to him as I closed my eyes again, leaning back against the log which I was using as an extremely hard pillow.

And, and I was falling asleep, I could have sworn Fili sent me one last message: You too Kshifvel.
