Celine laughed for the 8th time, more than she had in this whole month probably. As she played with Lola (she had learned the pixies name through a game of charades) Ian told her stories about the kids at school.

“How long ago did this happen?” she asked. He rolled his eyes.

“It happened about two days ago, everyone was aware of it but you. You’re pretty….concealed this year.” Celine looked at Lola not wanting to look at him.

“Yeah……” They had been driving on the plain for maybe six hours. They had already stopped for lunch and now they were getting hungry for dinner.

Celine hadn’t been nearly this far into the plain. Ian seemed to know where he was going which kind of scared her. He chatted on and continued driving as if they were driving on their way to a party.

At ten o’clock, she could see in the distance, a dark opening. This part of the cave wasn’t lit up which was extremely unusual. Ian kept driving towards it. They stopped just in front of it. He casually got out and stood just outside the entrance. She got out too and stood next to him.

“Ian I’m not going in there,” she said. “There’s a reason it’s not lit up. We aren’t supposed to go in there. It’s not safe.” He smirked.

“This whole trip is illegal and dangerous.”

He unloaded the jeep and packed their supplies into a giant backpack. Celine started to help. Her hands were shaking as she packed. Soon everything was safely tucked into two backpacks. Lola sat on Celine’s shoulder. Then Ian got back in the jeep. Celine watched confused as he turned it on and started driving away. Anger swelled up inside her. He was leaving her?!

But then he skidded around and drove to the left side of the dark cave. At the last minute, he jumped out and slid on the cave floor. His navy blue jeep flew into the opening and exploded, lighting up the darkness for a little while. He stood up, and brushed off his hands. Celine stared at him.

“What –the-heck,” she spitted out angrily. “What was that!? You destroyed our only method of transportation genius!!!!” He glared at her.

“Look, the cave is uneven and it’s not as long as trip as the plain. So we wouldn’t be able to take the jeep anyway. If I hadn’t destroyed it, the border guards would have seen it. Plus this is the only way we can go that doesn’t have that many guards, but its pitch black inside. You won’t even be able to see your hand in front of you face. Celine was really starting to regret coming with him.

“How do you know this?” she inquired. He pretended not to hear her question.

“The pixie’s gonna lead us. She’s been above ground before probably, plus she’s a source of light.” He said instead.

“The pixies name is Lola.” He ignored that too. He wasn’t in a jovial mood anymore. Celine could see he was getting angry, but not at her. He was wanted his revenge on the government. He wanted to kill the general that killed his mother. And since he was above ground, he had to go above ground to kill him. Celine would have just given up. She still couldn’t believe they were going above ground.

“Let’s go,” he said quietly. Celine picked Lola off her shoulder and tossed her towards the cave. Lola’s wings lifted her as the darkness swallowed her along with Celine and Ian .
