Noona POV

Just as I have the time to drink a bottle of plain water, the emergency room got busier than usual. Apparently, there has been a road traffic accident that involves a few cars and number of victims flooded the place.

I glanced quietly at the clock on the wall.

5.11pm.

Less than 2 more hours before I get to go home.
Quickly I shove the bottle of water inside my backpack. Dinner will have to wait until I get home I guess. I made my way through the busy unit and helped out as much as I could. As if it's not difficult to be the nurse, today out of all days I am required to be the charge nurse as the usual charge nurse is off sick. I practically ran here and there like a headless chicken trying to coordinate the beds for the patients and making sure there are always beds available for new patients. And also, dealing with impatient patients is giving me a migraine but as trained, I just have to deal with it with a straight face.

Just then, I noticed the student nurses crowding a bed with the curtain half closed. What the fuck are they doing there when there is so much to do in the yellow zone?
I quickly went over there and cleared my throat as loud as possible once I was standing behind them.

'What's going on?' I asked in my authoritative voice, folding my arms over my chest.
They all turned to look at me and when they realize it was me, they became quiet, keeping their heads down.
I casually pulled the curtain aside, revealing a patient being attended to by a resident, assisted by a student nurse who by the way aren't supposed to do that since they're only 1st year.

'Excuse me, what do you think you're doing?' I asked in a stern voice, walking over beside the bed.
The patient is sitting on the bed, his wrist being done splint. His hair is light brown and he is smiling at me, revealing his two front teeth. I smiled back. Always be nice to the patient, the words of my teacher from years ago rang in my head.

'I'm sorry, Mr-' I paused and glanced at the chart.
'I'm sorry Mr. Daniel but please for a while, pretend to be deaf because there is someone I need to scold,' I said sarcastically, glaring at the student nurse.
The student nurse that was there at the bedside stood there with her head hung low, ready for a full-blown rant.

"You, get out. And wait for me with your friends over the counter. You're not allowed to go home until I talk to you,' I said, staring at the student nurse.
'Y-yes, m-ma'am,' she managed to answer in a shaky voice and scampered away from the patient.

The resident who was examining the patient smiled at me and nodded, signaling that he needs help.
Immediately I picked up the disposable gloves from the box and took over the dressing.
It seemed that the patient had a serious swelling over his wrist and thumb.

'Did you fall?' I asked, unbinding the dressing the resident made earlier, silently wondering why he can't do it nicely.
'K-kind of. During a dance practice,' he replied, glancing at me.
'Oh, so you're a dancer?' I asked nonchalantly, my hands doing the work as usual. It had become my habit to strike a conversation as I attend to a patient ( if they're conscious, that is) as one of the ways to make them comfortable.
'Not really,' he chuckled and winced when my finger touched the swelling area.
'Not really?' I asked back, glancing back at him.
There goes that toothy smile again. Man, this guy must have liked smiling. That was when I had the chance to really see his face. Light brown hair with streaks of pink highlights, looks young, and quite good looking. He was wearing a black hoodie and black ripped jeans with sneakers I assumed he doodled on with Sharpie.

'You don't watch TV, do you?' He asked, amused.
'Well, I do. Except that after 5 minutes, the TV ended up watching me, so-' I shrugged, finishing the dressing neatly. Juggling work, rest and master's degree is a lot of hard work, I thought to myself.
He laughed again, this time his eyes smiled.
'What's so funny?' I asked, feigning innocence.
He brushed it off, shaking his head slightly from side to side.
'Okay, you're done. Just wait for the discharging process and I think, maybe in an hour time, you'll be able to go home,' I said, as I got up from the seat, discarding the gloves and washing my hands over the sink near the bed.
