It was the break of dawn when Varus was certain that all the Noxian's had left the temple grounds.
The bodies of the fallen troops lay sprawled across the ground. Their blood soaked the dirt and created pools around their bodies.
'Such needless violence..' Varus muttered.
He walked down to the base of the steps surveyed the area making sure there was no one else hiding.
'How can sane people seek dark magic such as that inside the pit?'
Once finding that there was no one else around living Varus ran back to the temple doors and closed them. He then reached down and firmly pushed in a brick which caused it to shift backwards then forwards when Varus released the pressure. There was a loud clanking noise and then a bang as the doors were locked into place.

It suddenly occurred to Varus how much time he had wasted waiting around at the temple. If the Noxian's hadn't been satisfied with killing only the elder as a message then everyone else was without a doubt in danger as well.
Without any hesitation Varus rushed down the steps again and with his bow in hand he ran straight for the village.

Varus didn't dare stop as he ran as fast as he could, his breath was heavy, his heart raced and yet still he pushed on.
Finally he did reach the village. It was still morning and it there was an eerie silence throughout the village.

No birds chirped, there weren't the sounds of any farm animals, no children laughing, no carts being wheeled across the ground, no voices from any adults, no voices at all.
A surge of panic flustered through Varus as he ran to the centre of the village. There was a blood stain on the ground where the elder had been killed. Varus felt his panic rise even higher and he ran straight to the village elders home nearby.
The door was open slightly and a foul stench came from inside. There was a loud buzzing noise from flies zipping in and out of the door.

With all of his might Varus ripped the door open, the force almost breaking it.
The sight inside was so horrify even to someone as used to violence as Varus was that it made him fall to his knees.
The elders bodies lay slumped against the wall and sprawled out on the floor. Smears of blood lay next to the bodies on the floor and streaks across the wall. It was a sight so stomach turning that Varus nearly threw up.
Some of the elders arms were severed some nearly split in half and some headless, with their heads on spikes that had been stabbed into the ground.
Flies buzzed around and were settled on the bodies.
Varus could no longer stand it, he ran from the building and slammed the door behind him.

'What kind of monsters would do this?' He shouted.
There was no answer to his question, not a single reply or so much as a whisper.
After finally catching his breath Varus walked to his house, not know what to expect inside.
The door was shut and no sounds could be heard.
Nervously Varus opened the door, then he heard a small groan of pain.
Quickly Varus ran in and found his wife leaning against the wall with their son cradled in her arms, he had been stabbed through the chest and was dead. But Varus' wife was still alive, she held on to life as she slowly raised her gaze up to her stunned husband.
'I knew you would come back.' She said with the little strength she had left. She had been stabbed in the shoulder and her blood lay in a trail on the wall where she had slumped down.
Varus ran to her side.
'It's going to be ok, I won't let you die.' He whispered.
'No. It's ok Varus, I don't blame you, there's nothing you can do to save me.' She said wither strength almost gone.
'But I can't let you die.' Varus replied with tears beginning to run down his face.
'It's ok. I have accepted this fate. But please Varus, don't let this be in vain, you have to- you have to stop them from hurting anyone else. It's ok, I'll tell our son how much you love him when I see him in the after life.'
'No wait you can't die!' Varus said with pain in his voice and tears streaming freely down his face.
'Goodbye Varus, I love you.' The last breath of life left her body, she slowly fell into Varus' arms who held both her and their son.
'I love you too. Both of you.'

There was a grave for every person in the village, Varus spent hours burying everyone and giving them a stone that he marked with each of there names.
When Varus finished burying his family last he found his tears had stopped. They were replaced with a deep rage.
'I'm sorry, I won't be joining you in the afterlife.' He said. 'I'll be dragging these Noxian murderers down to the void, even If it means I must go with them!'
