"Fourteen people..."

"Fourteen in one night?"

"Yeah, all of them in the same district too." The officer pulled out the files for the victims.

"Any suspects? It looks to me like they all up and died of a heart attack."

"That's the thing, the autopsies I recieved states that the cause of death is unknown. There is no marks of any kind, and all the victims were extremely healthy, with no medical conditions."

"Strange," the other man stared at the victim reports. "Hey, I went to school with some of these people! I remember this guy, he was a genius of some sort, but everyone hated him."

"What'd he do to be so hated?"

"Well I can't say. It was the atmosphere around him. He wasn't too bad looking, and he had a decent personality, but the air around felt so negative. I don't know, it might just be because he was so smart. Everyone were all so frustrated at how modest he was."

"A genius you say?" The officer scoffed. "It says here that he's some mechanic from the local auto shop."

"I heard he owned a couple of auto shops."

The officer whistled. "Underestimated this kid. He should be around the same age as you, right? Twenty-ish, ripe out of university?"

A sigh. "I feel sorry for him. Could've lived a good life too, if he hadn't passed away."

"Seems you don't loathe him as much as anyone else."

"I don't know about that. Everyone's mournful despite their dislike for him. It's weird."

The door opened abruptly and a burly man stood besides the door. "Break times over, we have an emergency, c'mon."

The two frantically put the files back into the folder and threw on their jackets. The young officer looked back as he closed the door.

"May your abhorred soul rest in peace... Ace..."

"He's awake! He's awake!" Was the first thing he heard. Slowly regaining his conscience, he tried to open his eyes, but there was a luminous light directly above. His head felt heavy. He couldn't lift it, neither could he move anything apart from his arms. He thought it strange. As his eyes began to adjust to the brightness, he could make out two figures above him. The figures were giant compared to him.

"He opened his eyes!" A husky voice whispered. It was the figure to his right. The other, he had only just realized, was holding him closely to her chest. Their eyes lit brightly as they stared at him. He was panicked. What was going on? Where is this place? Who are these giants? He opened his mouth to speak, wanting nothing more than these questions fulfilled, but found that he couldn't. It was as if words couldn't formulate, or that he was tongue tied.

"Aw, he's trying to speak," the female  figure squeaked excitingly. To him, it sounded mocking. Angered he tried shouting, resulting in the female figure to sway him in her arms back and forth. "There, there, mommy is right here."

Mommy? Confused and still blinded by the light, he rose his hands to shield his vision from it. His heart jumped to his throat. His hands were not the usual callused and rough hands. No, he saw smaller hands, newer hands, hands that have never known the touch of anything.

"She's all clean!" The voice startled him. He hadn't realized there were anyone else around. The male figure quickly rushed out of sight, then came back with a wrapped blanket.

"Mommy" smiled at the previous figure and he came closer.

"Hey little Alice," she said gently, peaking into the blanket bundle. Then she lifted him up closer to it. He could see a child in there. "It's your big brother, Ace!"
