As King Alfred's only child (supposedly), she's supposed to become the next King. She hasn't always really felt comfortable in the royal element and no one really knows who her mother is aside from her father, though rumors spread about the identity.
She eventually runs away with her friends Markos and Zemin (Mariel, Cuba's son, and Shanghai) after Zemin discovers he has family living in Clubs and Mikayla sees this as an out. Markos follows them because he is a guard in training and the relationship between his father and her father already sucks enough so if Mikayla dies or gets hurt while he's supposed to be watching her, his father is blamed big time.
