***************

Suzy's coffee shop stood right in the middle of town. They made the best confectionaries and coffee that gave off a warm feeling of home. To many it was a second home, filled with life, customers flooding in from the moments the sign read open up until late hours.

That particular morning the smell of fresh coffee beans filled the air.

Sophie had just finished filling the coffee machine with a new bag of coffee beans  and starting it up. Sensing its refusal to switch on she tapped it and it buzzed to life only to go off a few seconds later.

She wasn't surprised, the machine was very old and definitely needed repairs but they had managed it like that over the years.
Hitting it once more it reeled to life yet again only to stop once more coughing up white smoke, she groaned in annoyance

"Sophie, if you keep assaulting that thing long enough you might break it and its definitely coming out of your pay check"

Her coworker and best friend Cassandra mentioned from behind, she busied herself with sweeping behind the counter

"How else am I going to get the darn thing to work" she argued turning towards her

"Uhm... miss?"

A voice called from behind her she looked forward remembering what had actually brought her to the task of making coffee. The very first customer of the day stood across the counter glaring at her

"when exactly am i getting my cappuccino, am going to be late for work"

She scoffed at him... Well in her head, the number one rule Maggie had drilled into her on her first day was that customers were always right. It was 6:35 in the morning and the only reason she was there that early was cause they had to clean up all the dust and cobwebs that accumulated during the holidays.. they weren't expecting customers yet, heck, they weren't even open yet, but the idiot had barged in and demanded for a coffee... but as Maggie had always said... Customers were always right.
She sighed fixing on a plastic smile

"Am sorry sir, it will be ready in a few minutes"

"It better be"

She rolled her eyes at him... Who was even late at 6:40am. Looking at his pale skin, high hung nose, she could tell he was one of those stuck up arrogant butt kisser at work... Kissing butts in hopes of getting a promotion, but according to the movies she watched his character always lost the job to the hot newbie that ends up dating the boss... She smirked at herself facing the machine

"Whats so amusing"

"Oh nothing sir... it's quite a lovely day"

she replied tapping the coffee machine. It coughed up smoke again causing her to grunt in frustration.

"Okay that's enough Soph"

Cass emerged gently pushing Sophie aside and facing the customer

"Don't worry, just take the cookies from the oven, I'll take it from here"

"Thanks Cass, your a life saver"

Cassandra Woods was always Sophie's saviour. They knew each other right from middle school when Cassandra had been the new girl. Sophie was assigned to show her round school and they clicked immediately.
