•Chapter One - Take Me Away•

I have always been that nerd you see in class, the clumsy, unsporty kind of girl. I'm like one of those girls that you see on the movies, the one that walks down the high school corridor and gets pushed over, books and paper flying everywhere as she or he falls face first into the floor, yeah, it's happened to me before. Many times.

Boys aren't really much my thing either, I've only ever had one boyfriend, who may I say totally broke my heart by sleeping with my ex friend, Lauren. So I don't get close to guys, I don't think I could handle another heart break like that.

No one ever notices me because I am the nobody that no one ever really likes or dares to hang out with because it ruin any chance at there high school popularity status or something like that. My name is Melissa Hall and this is my story of how I found my One In A Million.

"I'm telling you Mel, you cannot move to LA!" Said Rachel, pouting at me while she was sitting down on my bed.

Rachel is my best friend, we've known each other and been best friends since we were five when we started primary school together. We were joined at the hip since day one and we would do EVERYTHING together. As far as I'm concerned no one will ever brake us apart.

Rachel is so much more prettier than me. She has long, soft, flowing brown hair that goes down to the lower part of her back but was always pulled up into a pony tail and those beautiful brown eyes that are covered by round glasses that always slides down her petite nose. I've always been jealous of her natural complexion, smart brain and her glossy hair.

She has had her nickers in a knot ever since I got my acceptance letter to Harrington West Collage, the best university in the US.

I rolled my eyes at her dramaticness, "And why not?" I demanded.

"Because I'll miss you to much and it cost a lot of money to fly from New York to LA! And why do you have to leave in two weeks?!" she whined pushing her glasses back up into place and staring at me with puppy dog eyes.

I chuckled, "You could always apply and come with me," I suggested, shrugging.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you didn't I?" she stammered, "I got accepted into Stanford." she said looking down at the floral bed spread.

"Stanford? That's fantastic Rach!" I congratulated her.

Stanford was my second choice for uni, if I didn't get into Harrington West. Which I was so happy I did, I couldn't believe it!

"Yeah, but it's so far from you!" she complained and tears started to roll down her rosy cheeks.

I was never really good at comforting people, even my best friend. So I just gave her a hug telling it would be alright until her tears slowly drained out and that, unfortunately, took a very long time. But she alway comforted me in my time of need and I have to admit, I had no idea what to do without her when I left! She has always been supportive ever since my parents died two years ago. I really have been an emotional wreck ever since the fatal car accident that killed them both. But I knew they would be proud of me if they knew I got into Harrington West. It was always their dream for me to go there. When I was accepted, it made me so happy that I could do what they always wanted me to and I wished they were here to see me today.

I let go a few of my own tears that had been built up too. Thinking of my parents made me sad. As I thought I played with the delicate gold chain around my neck that held a small golden heart with a even smaller diamond positioned at the bottom of the heart. It use to belong to my mum. My dad gave it to her when they first met and it was one of the last things I had left of them. It was the most treasured things I had.

Two weeks went way to fast as I said good bye to my friends and finishing packing my stuff. Before I knew it I was getting ready to board the plane, boarding pass is my hand, to Los Angles to meet my fate and my new future.

"Don't forget me," I smiled at Rach who was starting to tear up.

"Never. Best friends forever, remember?" She said holding up her arm so I could see the friendship bracelet dangling from her tiny wrist.

With that, I gave her a quick hug before walking down to the plane.

I was single file down the plane corridors but I finally made my way to my seat positioned down the back, but it made me happier to know I had a window seat.

While sitting on the plane I held up my wrist to see my matching friendship bracelet. We use to buy each other charms all the time. I looked at the last one she bought me just a few weeks back. A silver charm that had two letters stuck together.

LA

Here goes nothing

I thought, as the plane fired up and taxied down the runway, ready to take me away.
