The sky had always been a mystery to me.
Where would clouds go when they disappeared on the horizon? Would they get bigger? Would they get smaller? Would they become a grey rain cloud? Why couldn't I leave just like them? Why had I have to stay here with these monsters that called themselves humans?
I knew there wasn't a real answer to all those questions but still, I wanted to believe that there was more out there. More behind the horizon than a simple drop. This couldn't be the end. There had to be more. There had to be a place where I belonged.
No one seemed to know the answer. No one seemed to care either way. They didn't care if there was another world behind that horizon. They felt safe in their own little world and had their own little problems.
Maybe I could go? Maybe I would find a new place. Maybe I'd find my place to belong or maybe I'd just drop like everyone always said. There was only one way to find out. There was only one way to find out where the clouds disappeared to and there was only one person willing to figure it out.
Could a rowboat get me to the horizon? Would I survive the sea in a small boat until I had reached my goal? How long would I take to reach that goal? Would I ever get there? Taking a week's worth of food sounded rational did it not?
Rowing definitely was not one of my favourite activities but it got me forwards. One row after another. One row after another I got closer towards the horizon. One row after another I got closer towards my new world. One row after another I got closer to my apparent drop. I kept going, one row after another.
It was almost silent out here. All I could hear was the soft wind blowing and the small waves crashing against my tiny boat. It was a sunny day. A perfect little day. A day perfect for everything but rowing. I knew I was getting close to the edge. I knew the drop was about to be right in front of me but I also knew that no one cared if I fell or not.
So I kept on rowing and rowing and rowing. To then stop and look. I had reached the end. The sky had got dark in seconds and was now lit up with the most beautiful stars I had ever seen in my life. It was pure. It was breathtaking. It was numbing. I felt myself just floating in the water. I knew I was still slowly inching forward but now I didn't care.
I had found the place I belonged to. I had found a place where I could feel at peace. I had found my home.
I had found the drop.
