Aveline pulled her black hair back from her forehead, closing her eyes, and leaned back into the stream of hot, steaming water running from the showerhead. Rivulets poured down her tense, taut muscled body. Slowly, she relaxed as the heat poured over her, and sighed in relief. Aveline combed her fingers through her hair under the running water, washing the remains of her conditioner out.
She turned the water off and stepped out of the shower into the now foggy bathroom, pulling a soft towel off the rack and drying her shivering body. There was an impatient knock at the bathroom door.
"Aveline! Could you hurry up? I really need to go pee!" Nora knocked again, and Aveline could just imagine her roommate doing the 'my bladders going to burst' dance.
She almost giggled aloud at the thought, but caught herself, "Okay, okay! Sorry, I'll be out in a minute!"
She quickly tugged her grey underwear and sports bra on, then her black leggings, which stuck to her wet legs, and she had to jump to pull them on, and then finally, her charcoal grey sweatshirt on. Then Aveline opened the door and stepped to the side, dodging Nora as she bulleted to the separate toilet and closed the door.
Aveline chuckled to herself as she hung up the towel and walked out of the bathroom and plopped down onto her bunk. She pulled on her socks, and then began to tie her black and white converse on to her feet. When Aveline was done, she stood up, brushing the white fuzz from her comforter off her leggings, and stood up, walking over to the window to take a peek at the sun rising over the college campus.
The bright white sun cast it's pale glow over the grey gardens, they clouds darkening a shade in comparison, its light filtering through the light grey leaves on the trees, which were starting to fall onto the slowly frosting grass. The usual whitish grey sunrise at BYU Idaho.
"Good morning sun!" Nora's exuberant voice bounced through the air.
Aveline jumped, "Crap!" She sighed in relief, realising that it was only Nora, "you scared me half to death!"
Nora smirked quirkily, "sorry," her voice shrugged with her shoulders, "at least it wasn't all the way!" Her voice became an almost kinky sort of playful.
Aveline rolled her eyes, "but what if it was?" She smirked in a savage sort of way, knowing she had hit the nail on the head, and that maybe Nora would shut up now. No such luck.
"Well," Nora's smile spread farther across her cheeks, "I..." She placed a hand on Aveline's shoulder, "I think....." Her voice faded, and her pale grey eyes widened, her plump lips falling open ever so slightly. "Aveline... Do you see what I see?"
Before Nora's eyes, Aveline's face began to....glow. It was strange, yet undeniably beautiful. The said glow spread from Aveline's face outward. Suddenly, everything seemed vibrant, the tone of the very shade of every object brightened, it was so becoming. It was like Nora had just had an epiphany. She stared into Aveline's eyes, realising their shade was nearly the same as the sky's, with a hint of the shade of the campus grass added in. Her once ebony hair had a warmer tone to it, it seemed to match the dark wood of the floor.
Nora felt a sudden, strong, tugging attraction to Aveline. She was so beautiful, and Nora felt a need, burning in her veins, to feel Aveline's lips against hers. It was like a magnet was tugging her body forward, begging, thirsting, for Aveline's touch. Nora leaned forward, out of pure gut instinct, and pressed her lips to Aveline's. She had never done this before, only heard of it. Her eyes stayed open, and it was as if the shades in the room rose two octaves in brightness.
Aveline stepped back, startled. "I told you I didn't see what you saw? Did you not hear me? I didn't give you permission to.." She stumbled, trying to figure out a word for what had just happened, gesticulating frustratedly, "do... that," she spat out, throwing her hand in the direction of Nora's lips. She secretly admitted to herself that she liked it, although she had no idea what Nora had meant when she said 'Do you see what I see?'
Nora pulled her hand off of Aveline's shoulder, regrettably, and the vibrance seeped out of her vision, and once again, the world was a combination of drab blacks, whites, and greys. She searched in Aveline's eyes for any trace of the brightness that was there before, but it was gone. Nora's eyes dropped. Maybe she was just imagining things. "I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. We should probably get going to class." Nora walked past the shocked Aveline silently, her head low and her eyes downcast. As she turned the doorknob, she looked back, "see you after class."
Aveline stood there, as she heard the door close after Nora, her footsteps fading down the hall, her desideratum hanging in the air. She didn't understand these feelings, she couldn't control them. Half of her was undeniably in love with Nora, the other half told her no, her gut said yes her heart said no, that there was something else waiting, something more, something that needed her. And boy did she know how it felt to need somebody so bad you would die without them. So she would wait.
