Today was the day.

December 24, 2018 — the day when we were finally going to host the annual supernatural council meeting. The particular meeting between every kind and/or type of supernatural beings, where we would be discussing certain things about the treaty. Or at least — that was how our parents had said when they kidnapped us for an entire five hours last night to tell us the do's and don't's during the damn meeting.

We've never been in one of these meetings, so it was safe to assume that we had absolutely no idea what we would be encountering. Uncle Peter said various beasts and creatures would pay us a visit underwater, and would be staying here for an entire week. He also said that these creatures weren't supposed to be fucked with, because 'sweetcheeks these are Alphas, they would have your neck before you can even register what the hell just happened'.

Axel and Garrett have been bitching the entire time, mainly because our fathers were making them do all the paperwork. Giselle, Gail, and I were amused, to say the least. But even we weren't spared when our mothers had us prepare the reception, and the main courtroom where the council meeting would take place itself.

Chaos.

That could be the one word used to describe the entire palace right about now. Warriors were being barked out orders at, because apparently according to Garrett 'no one could afford to fuck up today'. Mermen and male sirens were in charge of loading in the chairs and arranging them around the courtroom. Mermaids were split in half; the first batch were to be helping out in decorating the reception hall, and the second assisted the cooks in preparing appetizers, dishes, and desserts. The sirens were already by the borders, instructed to escort the visitors once they arrive.

Somehow, in the midst of this entire mess, I wasn't panicked. In fact, I was sitting next to my best friend by the corals while we ate some cookies that had been made earlier by my mother, before she herself had dove into a frenzy trying to sort out the guest list that apparently they had forgotten.

Giselle, who sat next to me, grinned. "This is even better than uncle Adam beating the absolute shit out of Garrett," she laughed out. Her fiery red hair glistened against the current, waving around her face while she sat back down carelessly and continued to gobble a couple more cookies. Her tail, a good shade of pink, was relaxed. A few fish came up to nip at her tail, and she only giggled, flipping her tail to shoo them off. "Say, Rory," she glanced at me, "how's the sting?"

I let out a ragged breath, the ripple in my belly once again surfacing. "It's there," I shrugged.

The sting was something we Key's were known for. The sting was apparently something that had started during the first Key bloodlines, and I guess it just carried on to the generations that came. Written in the old books that were passed down from generation to generation, the sting was more or less a sign from Poseidon, the god himself, that we were close to meeting our Equal.

The sting that had came over me started sometime during last week while we had dinner. I started having these cramp-like waves through my entire torso, and my mom thought it was food poisoning. That was, until it continued on for three more days that dad had Axel and I sitting in his office and told us stories about our 'sting'.

Our parents had simply brushed it off saying I was probably close to meeting my Equal, which worried the hell out of Axel. He had a theory that my Equal wasn't a fellow underwater creature, unlike us. That me having my sting during the council meeting wasn't just some stupid coincidence.

"How's Axel taking it?" Giselle inquired, tossing some chips into her mouth.

"He's been bitching all week."
