Lock
you exist to protect our possessions—
bicycle, safe, hallway locker—
and so much of our society remains
dependent on the safety you provide—
home security systems, insurance,
airport x-ray machines—
but do you really keep us safe
from what means to do us harm?
even though
a locked car keeps the burglars out,
it keeps us trapped inside.
