Effie, District 12 escort, stood up on the stage, about to call the female tribute. We all stood, silent, waiting, hoping that none of our loved ones would be chosen. Effie pulled a name out of the jar.
"PRIMROSE EVERDEEN!"
I woke up screaming. Today's the day of the reaping, I have been having these dreams for the past week. I won't get picked though right? My name is only in there once, Katniss has it worse.
I quickly changed into my Reaping clothes and braided my hair. My sister, Katniss, was just returning from a hunt. I could hardly eat anything. Before I knew it, it was time for the Reaping.
We all gathered in the Town Square by the stage, where Effie, with her bright neon hair and extremely high heals, skipped on stage. Haymitch, previous winner of the games, wasn't there yet, probably drunk. The Reaping started with a small speech from the mayor and a short video from the Capitol. Then, it was time to chose the tributes.
"Well, as always, ladies first!" Effie exclaimed. She walked over to a large glass bowl with tons of papers with all the names of the girls, ages 12-18, in District 12. We all waited in suspense as she carefully selected a piece of paper from the bowl. She finally picked one, and it seemed as if time slowed while she opened it. "PRIMROSE EVERDEEN! Where are you dearie?"
What! Me! No! This can't be possible! Katniss is frozen with shock, and all other girls around me began to clear away, leaving me a straight path to the stage. My legs felt like lead as I slowly walked up to the stage. All of the people in the crowd looked at me in awe, shocked that I had been chosen, and sad.
Effie squeaked, "Any volunteers? No? Well, let's have a round for District 12's female tribute!"
No one clapped, instead, they lifted three fingers to their mouth, then up in the air. A District 12 symbol of thanks, admiration, and goodbye to someone you love. Effie, not knowing what to do, continued on.
"Now for the male tribute!"
As she slowly dug around in a bowl identical to the other, I was sincerely hoping she would not chose Gale, Katniss's friend, or Rory, Gale's brother and my best friend.
"PEETA MELLARK!" She yelled.
A boy with shortish blonde hair walked up to the stage. I think he's the bakers son, he doesn't look to intimidating, but pretty strong.
"And these are the District 12 tributes! Alright now shake hands."
We shook hands, and he gave me a small comforting squeeze. We were then lead to separate rooms to say goodbye to loved ones. Katniss and Mother came in first.
"Prim! I'm so sorry! Is should of volunteered! I'm sure you can win! You're small, fast, smart, and you know lots of things about edible plants and healing. Remember the hunting lessons I gave you? They will help you survive! Pick one weapon to learn, alright? I love you Prim, you can win!" Katniss advised, like she had been in the games.
Katniss's advice was a little overwhelming, but I took it all in. Anything to win the games. I gave Katniss and Mother a large hug, then they were dragged out by Peacekeepers. I have never felt so alone before. Then Rory and Gale entered. They both said encouraging things, and Rory gave me a mockingjay pin, to remember him, then they left.
We were then dragged onto a train, I was trying, and failing, to hold my tears in. Peeta was also crying. The cameras took tons of pictures of us, to let the world know who the tributes for District 12 are.
The tribute train is fancier then any thing I have ever seen, but judging by my old life, that's not much. We each have our own chambers that have a bedroom, a dressing area, and a private bathroom. My closet is filled with tons of beautiful clothing. I quickly slip on a comfortable shirt and pants, and go down for dinner.
Peeta and Effie are already at the table. Supper is carrot soup, green salad, lamb chops, mashed potatoes, cheese, fruit, and chocolate cake. I have never seen this much food my entire life! I start stuffing myself, earning a disgusted look from Effie.
After dinner, we go into a different compartment to watch a recording of all the Reapings. One by one we she them, the names called, very few volunteers. Only a few deadly looking ones stand out to me, like a monstrous boy who volunteers in District 2. Then they show District 12. Effie calling my name. The crowd parting away from me as I slowly walk to the stage. Peeta and I shaking hands. Then, it cuts to the anthem.
Just then, Haymitch staggers into the compartment. "I miss supper?" He slurred. Then he vomits onto the beautiful expensive carpet, and falls into it. He then tries to get up, but fails. "I tripped?" He asks. "Smells bad."
Peeta and I half drag him to his room and into his bathtub, and turn the shower on.
"I'll take it from here," Peeta says.
I nod and head back to my room. For a while, I just stared out of my window.in the distance, there was lights of another district. I wonder what Katniss and Mother are doing now. What Gale and Rory are doing.
Thinking about home makes me ache with loneliness. If I go to sleep, will I wake up at District 12? With Katniss? With my poor cat Buttercup? Where I belong?
I slip on a night gown, and crawl into the soft bed.
I'm walking in the forest, where Katniss taught me to hunt. There are dark eyes everywhere, and voices calling out incomprehensible things. I am alone. I am scared. There is no one here to comfort me, no one to love me, no one who cares. Then, I hear a loud screaming, I run, but everything looks the same as if I am going in circles. Then, I hear someone calling my name.
"Primrose! Prim! Up, up, up! It's a big day today!" Effie squeaked.
I put on some random clothes, then go down for breakfast.
As I enter the cart, Effie brushes by me, muttering about Haymitch under her breath. Haymitch, with a red puffy face, is chucking. Peeta is holding a small roll, and looks a little embarrassed.
The moment I sit down in my chair, I am served a huge breakfast. Eggs, ham, piles of fried potatoes, with fruit. There is also a large basket of rolls that could keep my family full for a week. I am served orange juice, and something a Peeta claims is hot chocolate. I then drained my cup, and demolished my meal.
When my stomach feels like it's going to split open, I lean back and look at my breakfast companions. Peeta is still eating, breaking of bits of roll and dipping it in hot chocolate. Haymitch isn't paying much attention to his food, and is instead drink red juice from a bottle. Judging from the smell, it's liquor.
"So, you're supposed to give us advice," I tell Haymitch.
"Here's some advice," he responds,"Stay alive." Then, he bursts out in laughter.
Angered, Peeta lashes out at the glass in Haymitch's hand, it shatters on the floor.
Haymitch frowns, then punches Peeta in the jaw. Alarmed, I backed up a bit, but Haymitch didn't do anything else. Peeta then stood up and grabbed some ice to put on a bruise that was forming on his face. Haymitch then turns to me.
"Are you good with any weapons?" He asks.
Katniss tried to teach me to hunt, so I guess I'm okay with a bow and arrow, but I think I'm better with knives. "I'm okay with the bow and arrow, I also like knives." He then has us stand in an open space, and circles around us, observing us.
"Well you not entirely hopeless. Kind of fit. The stylists will make you attractive enough," he says," In a minute, we will pull up to the Capitol. Then, the stylists get a hold of you. You won't like what they do, but never resist." He then grabs his liquor and leaves the cart.
Soon, we reach the Capitol.

Hey guys! 1401 word count(not including this) please vote and comment! I don't mind tips, or if you point out mistakes, but please don't be rude about it. I will TRY to have the next chapter posted tonight, but it is very time consuming. After tonight, I will try to post a chapter every Friday. One more thing, do you guys want Peeta and Prim to be like siblings and stick with each other throughout the games? Or should I not really have Peeta in the story much? Thanks and bye!
