One night when a small town girl answers the call of the river she gets a surprise. She finds and makes a new friend she seems a little odd. But she doesn't think much of it.
Astra was a sophomore and misunderstood. Which is one of the worst things to be as a high school girl. She had brown hair, blue eyes that shined like the night sky and caramel colored skin. She was known for being the bad girl, partly because of how she acted the other part because she mostly wore her leather jacket with a t-shirt and jeans. Everyone thought they had her figured out. At home, her life wasn't as easy as everyone thought. As much as she tried to pretend it was fine, it still never turned out the way she wanted. She tried to put on a facade that everything was okay. It started to weigh on her. She got mostly good grades and had lots of friends.
She had this one friend she knew was bad for her but always forgave her. No matter what, even if it caused her some trouble. She had blonde hair with brown eyes and a mischievous smile that could convince you of anything and Astra fell for it every time. She kept doing this until one day she couldn't take it anymore.

Her friend Caterina got herself in too deep, with all her drama." I need to talk to you Cat" Astra says but Cat doesn't even look up. "Sorry to separate you from your boyfriend but you will be back don't worry," she says sarcastically, no longer able to contain her annoyance.
Cat looks up her rolls her eyes and nods "I will be right back don't go anywhere. What was so important you had to talk to me right now?"
"Who was that don't you have a boyfriend?"
"Is that all you wanted to talk about? He is just a friend calm down nothing will happen."
"You always say that Cat I'm done. I don't want to deal with this anymore you have so many "guy friends" it is hard to keep track. When you figure this all outcome find me and we can be friends again" Astra says and then turns and walks away.
"Okay, fine Ash have fun. Bye if you don't want to be around me it is your choice" she says but Astra doesn't even turn around she just keeps walking.
Later after school, Astra started walking home. She stayed till the end of the day but thought about ditching. "I really hope today becomes better, I mean it can only go up from here right?" she thinks to herself. "I pray mom and dad are okay, with the day I had I really can't handle any more bad today," she thinks. As she arrives home it seems like no one is home so she goes to the kitchen and makes a snack. She ends up eating popcorn and just she is about to sit down her mom arrives home. She watches her mom to try and find out her mood. She is a lot quieter than usual, hopefully, everything is okay. A few hours her dad comes home and then the yelling begins. Instead of listening, she decides to leave and get out of the house she can't sit there and listen.
Once she started walking that night she wandered towards the river of her small town. Her parents we arguing and with her fight with Cat today she needs some time to herself to think. For some odd reason she always felt drawn to the water, she felt safe and it was calming. She feels like the calmness and smell of the salty air helps her concentrate and she thinks clearer. As she approached the dock she saw an old steamboat that was about to leave. Without a second thought, she jumped aboard.
Once she was on the boat, she looked around and realized that she was surrounded by people in costumes. " What is going on here? Why are they dressed like it is the 1800's" she thinks to herself.
