Addylin

Her soft comforting voice replayed in my head.

"Everything will be okay." She had said.

But it wasn't. Nothing was okay.

Rocks crunched under my feet as a small hand grasped my own. Cold bit at my face and hands. Dark trees were all that could be seen for as long as I could see. Stars shined brightly in the midnight sky.

I looked down at the blue eyed beauty holding onto my hand. Her delicate black hair slightly curling at her shoulders. Her small nose a bright shade of red as the cold air threatened us both.

Her soft voice that reminded me of my mother whispered to me as her tiny teeth chattered, "Addy, I'm cold."

"I know Gweny, so am I." I replied, shivering.

"Why didn't Mommy come with us? Is she going to find Daddy?" She said, so innocently.

My teeth clenched. Tears fighting my eyes, trying to surface. "Yes Gweny. She is with Dad right now at this moment."

Her face brightened into a smile that could make anyone smile as well. "Can we find them both?"

"Gwen, maybe. We should get some sleep. We have a long day of walking ahead of us." She was just so innocent.

I took my backpack off and put it on the rocky ground. I quietly unbuttoned it and pulled out a large fluffy baby blue blanket that could fit both Gwen and I. I laid it out on the rocks and laid down on it, Gwen curling up next to me. I slowly dozed off, listening to her quiet shivers as her breathing calmed.

Her eyes were filled with terror as she threw my backpack at me. She rushed around the kitchen, throwing some food and water bottles in a little hand bag. I shoved a baby blue blanket inside the backpack, over all my pictures, few pairs of clothes, and my chocolate brown tiny stuffed teddy bear. I ran up the stairs, two a time, rushing to Gwen.

I ran into her pink bedroom and she was curled under a big fluffy purple comforter. I ran over to her, her quiet peaceful slumber awakened by my frantic touch shaking her, trying to get her to wake up.

Her beautiful navy eyes sprang open. "Gwen we need to leave. Pack anything you can't live without. Pack only 2 sets of clothing and put on sneakers that are good for walking. Hurry. We don't have much time."

She jumped out of bed and grabbed her school bag and started putting stuff in it. I let her be and went to my bedroom. The dark blue paint throughout the room made me smile. My fluffy white carpet on the ground made me remember laying on it and dreaming about my life in the future. I looked at my necklace with a cross on it. I grabbed it and put it around my neck and tucked it under my maroon sweatshirt. I ran out of there, who knew you could take something so simple and feel heartbroken leaving it. I took so many things in my life for granted, and now they're gone.

A scream suddenly echoed through my small town of Camden, Maine. I ran back into Gwen's room and grabbed her hand and we ran downstairs to my mother. Crystal blue tears were flowing from her navy eyes. We embraced a quick tight hug and her soft lips kissed the tops of our heads.
