I remember the first time I stopped breathing
I was fifteen
It was when my heart stopped beating when you kissed me on my natural mahogany lips
Stealing every chance I ever had at living
Because at that moment my body no longer belonged to me
It was yours for the taking
Ready to be branded with conviction
Waiting to be claimed as your prize
On the dusty shelf that was labeled;

"The girl who never loved herself"

And at that moment,
I became your responsibility

Someone should have told you that you could never just give a piece of your heart to make a broken one whole
Because now I'm clinging for the need of your love to shower me in its remains like the Jesus of my Sundays
Because blessings like that have never fallen on my lap

But you have forgotten why you kissed me in the first place

You took my breath when I had none to give
And now you blow it in the wind
Knowing I will never catch it
So my mahogany lips paled blue
And I'm slipping into a coma on my dire somber cradle

Morose, morose

The flowers you gave me are dying as we speak
Through you, I was their source of life
But now they crumble to the ashes they once rose from
Like I,
With you
And all they needed was air

All I needed was to breathe
