The Fall

“Goodbye John.”

You spread your arms out like Christ on the cross; you look over the edge of the building and then you fall. Down, down, down. I watch everything happen in slow motion. I scream your name, but I know that won’t help anything. The sudden urge to catch you floods over my ice-cold body like a tidal wave, but it's too late. I hear a loud thump on the pavement not far from where I'm standing, so I rush to the source of the devastating sound.

Lying in a pool of red, you're eyes made of a million galaxies stare cold and lifeless.

I can't breathe. Tears roll down my cheeks like a waterfall as I reach for your arm. No pulse. I pray to feel at least one beat; but there's nothing.

I'm suddenly pushed away by nurses and you're carried away on a hospital trolley. I reach out to you, but you then disappear behind hospital walls.

My world collapses as realisation dawns upon me.

"My best friend. Sherlock Holmes...is dead."
