short chapter***
I see my father beeing buried six feet under ground. Only Jayle and a friend of my father is present. We say a prayer and walk back home.
I can't believe he is gone. What should I do now? Elizabeth has left me and now I need to marry Diana. She is bearing a child of mine. I can't abandon the child. I won't be a bad parent.
Jayle opens the door of the home and I step in. It feels so different sort of peaceful but lonely.
"Martin," Jayla interrupts my thoughts, "do I prepare the noon dinner?"
"No thank you," I answer, "I am going to my room."
"Okay,"
I walk upstairs to my room and lay on the bed. How can my happiness just slipped away from my grip? Maybe I am not destine to be happy. I might end up like my father after all, married to a bad woman and just work until I die.
...
Weeks have pass by and now I am Diana is married to me. It was a small ceremony nothing special but we had a grand party. We haven't announced anything about the child, but we soon will. She is now living with me along with Elizabeth. She is basically my server as well but of course I don't treat her like one.
"So would you like to dine lamb or chicken tonight?" Diana asks me. We are siting in the library reading books. "I don't mind any choice," I answer.
"Why are you acting like this?" she asks.
I put the book down and look at her. "What do you mean?"
"You haven't had a good conversation with me like you used to and you don't touch me anymore."
"You are with child, I don't feel comfortable touching you in any matter," I say.
"And why you act like you hate me?"
"I don't hate you,"
"then?"
I sigh, "I just don't love you Diana."
I see a tear running down her face. "I hate you."
"Well, you are doomed now. I won't give the divorce. You will be mine until I die,"
"I will be glad to be,"
"Then why you say you hate me?"
"I say I hate that you love Elizabeth and not me,"
I stand, "you are correct." I exit the library and go to the kitchen. I don't want to get upset. I need to be relaxed.
"Mister?"
I turn and see Elizabeth with a basket of apples. "don't call me that."
"I need to," she answers, "Lady Diana will get angry with me if I don't."
"But I am the owner of this house. you do what I say,"
She puts the basket on the stove. "Martin, this is impossible. You need to be happy with Diana. you said so yourself, she is a good woman."
"a good woman?" I chuckle evilly, "she is the devil itself! She seperated us."
Elizabeth shakes her head, "No. Don't say that."
"What else could i say?" I walk towards her. Having her sweet scent so close to me makes me want to kiss her.
"She is the mother of your future child,"
"So? I won't be a bad father but I can't guarentee i will be a good husband."
"I am so sorry," Elizabeth says.
I touch her cheek but she moves back. "No. I will never be with a married man."
"Eli-"
"Please leave, I need to help Jayla with the apple pies," Elizabeth says.
I nod and leave to the living room. I don't know what I am going to do. I think I need to go to church and pray hard for an answer.
....
We dine lamb with vegetables and bread. Jayla is giving Diana a piece of pie. I get a glass of wine and drink up.
Suddenly, "you negro!" Diana yells. I look up and see Diana's dress covered in red wine. "look what you did!"
"Oh oh i am so sorry, it was a mistake," Jayla starts to clean her dress up with a towel. Diana pushes her to the ground. I lose my patience.
I quickly go to her aid, "are you alright?" Jayla nods.
I pick her up and look at Diana. "How dare you help her?! She ruined my dress!"
"How dare you push an elderly woman? It was an accident."
"Don't fight please," Jayla says, "I am okay. I will pay for the dress miss."
"Sure, with what money?" Diana storms off to our room.
I turn to Jayla. "Are you sure you aren't ill?"
"I am fine."
Elizabeth comes in, "what happened?"
"nothing nothing," Jayla answers. "Child help me clean this please."
Elizabeth nods, "yes."
"I don't know what I will do with this woman," I say. jayla turns to me, "child thats what i said to you when i first got you in my arms. What am i going to to do with a white little boy who won't eat nothing else but chocolate?"
I chuckle, "how did you deal with me?"
"with lots of praying, and patience, that woman aint bad or evil, she is just angry," Jayla answers.
"Angry?" Elizabeth asks.
JAyla nods, "I see a sad little white girl in those eyes. She is a angry girl. You gotta make not angry and make her happy."
She begins to get the food off the floor and Elizabeth follows. I excuse myself and go to Diana. I knock on the door, "May I come in?"
"Sure."
I open the door and see her crying on the bed. "Why are you angry all the time?" I ask.
She turns to me, "what?"
"you are an angry woman," I say. "not evil."
"so you think i am evil?"
"no but an angry woman."
She shakes her head, "I am angry because my husband doesn't love me."
"I don't love you because I love Elizabeth. And I won't love you when you act like a brat."
"you saying i am spoiled?"
"Yes."
"I was daddy's girl," she answers looking at the wall. "he left me spoiled."
"you need to change," I say.
"change what?"
"Your thinking, your talk," I say.
She stands, "why?"
"So you will be happy, and a good mother."
"you don't understand,"
"make me understand,"
"i love you martin," she says.
"I wish i love you too," I answer.
"will you love my child?"
"our child will be loved and care for,"
She kisses my cheek. "okay."
"I think its time to announce your pregancy."
"i do too."
