Enigma: Chapter 2- Part 1

You have to go on and be crazy. Craziness is like heaven.

Something wet tickled the palm of my hand. The bed shifted a little accommodating another’s weight. Rhythmic breathing now could be heard from the right side of where I lie. Opening my eyes was inevitable; the little pup craved attention and didn’t take no for an answer.

Deciding to take the easy way out, I blinked out the residual grogginess and leaned closer to the right while putting my hands out to search for her. My fingers met puppy fluff.  When I immediately started stroking it, October licked my arms in gratitude. Now in a squirmy attitude, she attacked me as if this was her intended plan and that it had took every ounce of self-control not to do it in the first place. It took about five seconds before I got irritated. I pushed and kicked but her perseverance was almost insurmountable. Anger boiled within me which was quite unusual seeing as I was never the angry type.

A plan unfolded itself and I knew exactly what to do. A warm, tingling sensation coated my body. I concentrated as if my life depended on it and soon enough the molecules gave in. October’s metal nametag started to melt and she was now yowling and whimpering in pain.

Realizing what it is I actually had done, I panicked and grabbed the nametag. As soon as I got it in the palm of my hand, little metal drops started moving upwards towards the open air then they multiplied into smaller metal drops. Then, finally, they dispersed as if they had never existed.

Logic, as ironic as it may sound, overturned everything after the event occurred. I grabbed the dog and put her in the bath as I ran the water. I got the aloe and every burn ointment we owned. When I was sure she had enough water to cool the burn, I plopped her down beside me gently applying generous amounts of the ointment only to cover it with gauze.

Done, I pulled her into a tight embrace while sitting on the bathroom floor and rocked her back and forth. Tears overflowed my face and dripped down on to the pups ears.

What had I done?

I refused to believe that what happened was real. There was no way I could have done that. It defied everything I knew! That is it! I am certifiable.
