It was because he needed the money that Jason applied. Since the crisis things had been rough for his parents and siblings.
"The nature of her work is none of your business. Dedicate yourself to your task and under no circumstances should you interrupt her while working". His instructions were very clear as he was given the key to the apartment where he is supposed to clean, to do laundry and keep his mouth shut.
As he was walking down the street he felt a light breeze invade through his jacket's sleeves. He shivered as the cool air caressed his arm up to his collar bone. His shot-cut hair, making him look like a jarhead, allowed the cold air to send chills though his neck down his spine as well.
After walking for another minute or so he reached the apartment complex where he was, of now, employed and pushed the nameless ring. Without a word the door buzzed and opened introducing Jason to a dimly lit entrance with an elevator straight ahead and a staircase to the right. He immediately went for the elevator and pressed the metallic button. As the doors opened he stepped aside and let an old lady pass before stepping in himself. As he elevated to the eleventh floor of the building he tried to suppress his nervousness. He certainly did not want to make a bad impression on his first day. He got out of the elevator and looked around twice and even three times but could not find the apartment door. He checked the address he was given but did not understand what was wrong. Eventually he decided it would be best to call the number that was given to him. After six long rings the receiver picked up
-Umm hello I was wondering if -
-Wrong number
The call ended.
Infinitely confused he calls again this time to be answered in less than two rings
-What do you want?
I'm sorry to bother you but where is the apartment?
-...you're the one they sent?
-Yeah,but I'm a little lost in the moment
-Just take the stairs
Call ended.
Jason then started going up the stairs only to discover that the building had one more floor nit accessible by elevator. On that floor there where three doors. Once he found the nameless bell he contemplated whether to knock or go right in, he had a key after all.
Before he raised his hand to knock on the door he heard a voice from inside
-Just come in already! The door's unlocked!
The voice sounded impatient and on edge like on the phone.
Jason would decide if leaving the door unlocked was idiotic later.
Deciding to overcome his anxiety, Jason grabbed the door handle and opened it decisively.
The room was as dark and colorless as the hallway, with a red sofa making a difference at the back of the room. In front of it a coffee table with a laptop and a mess of papers covering its surface and a long kitchen counter on the left of the room. And right there in the middle, just six feet away from him, she stood.
Her presence strong and her aura mysterious, standing 161cm, a good 15cm less than him, with slightly broad shoulders, wearing a dark blue hoodie too large for her delicate frame, as were her sports shorts, with a bun hanging loosely above her dark brown eyes, studying him, like a wild animal sizing up an enemy. Jason just stood there himself looking for something to say to release the tension.
-Hey..
She said, now with a softened expression.
-Hey,he said as he took a step forward to shake her hand, my name is -
