The party was dead. Literally... as in corpses tumbling and stumbling around each other with no sense of direction as if they were all tipsy. Was being the operative word.

When I walked in ready for some high roller action I got what I least expected, maybe, around two dozen black, bottomless eyes staring at me hungrily. Time for me to run for my life or at least scream bloody murder, but I did neither stunned into silence as I stared at their brown rotting flesh peeled at the edges with maggots crawling from it. Scraggly brown hair in wild shambles adorned their heads. My mouth agape I took one leisurely step back hoping they will divert their attention at any moment.

Should have brought my sword, but running around armed in public didn't raise public opinion. Nope, it just raised suspicion. Plus, on the way over I could have sworn some people were tailing me. Good, at least that meant I had back-up if I needed it. Even if that entailed the nosy, don't know what they're doing variety.

Music blares in the background and with it my adrenaline soars in time with my heart. The air smells dank of death and decay enough so that I crinkle my nose. Everything seems to spin in slow motion as the undead inch closer scuttling over one another in their haste to claw their way to me. Well, if they wanted some they had to come get it.

"Hey, dead creepy things. Nice, juicy, tender flesh for the taking. Over here!" Stupid, thanks for the compliment. Do I perhaps have a death wish, most definitely.

One who might have been around the age of sixteen dragged its way to me and almost gnawed on my hand. Bad idea in my opinion for I caught the zombie's head with the heels of my stilettos as it gave a sickening crunch twisting unnaturally backwards. Ugh, now I needed new shoes.

Satisfied that it wouldn't get the urge for the munchies again I turned my piercing gaze on the others, but before I could a limp hand found its way to my ankle pulling me down with surprising strength. I stifled a shriek hitting my head on the cold, marble floor. One Tweetie bird. Two Tweetie birds flying around in dizzying circles. Snapping me out of my daze several zombies joined the one foul breath making me want to gag repulsively and ragged hands clawing at my body. With all of my resolve to be rid of these creatures I thrashed about bringing up my fist to connect to some poor suckers face except hitting thin air. Next time it wouldn't be too lucky.

Pain sliced through my leg causing panic to well inside about to burst. One of those freakies bit me! Whether it was rage or desperation or maybe a little of both didn't matter, but my survival instincts finally kicked in. Both my feet swung out knocking the assailants off me to crumple on the ground. Time to use my head. I bashed it against one of the zombies hard, but it didn't seem to faze it. Along with a burning sensation that felt like hot coals inside, my head now ached. What a perfect day this turned out to be.

On my feet once again my eyes searched for a weapon. There on the wall not too far away was a fire ax encased in glass. I leaped part of the distance dodging and weaving past the hordes of zombies until I was directly in front of the ax shattering the glass shaking off the bloody shards. An alarm started to blare as I took out my prize. Bruised, but triumphant I was ready to face the undead.

Charging through their ranks I chopped off each every head until they littered the ground. Crimson liquid smeared my face and droplets sprayed my prom dress, but I couldn't, no, I wouldn't falter not if I was going to beat him.

Scatterbrained or not I took out the pack of smokes from the slit in the dress. Before anyone arrived at prom I had poured gasoline over the entire school as a back-up plan of sorts. So that the dead stayed dead this time I lit a match throwing it to the ground and catching the place on fire. Let them burn for what they did, their inconsumable appetite for flesh.

Well, if the fire department didn't arrive here soon enough to douse the flames at least the students would thank me for burning down part of their school. I can't say the same about anyone else. Hopefully, the lab would send someone down to clean this up and spin a story that doesn't wind me in jail. Fingers crossed.

Hey, at least I got the zees though. That was a plus!

My job was finished here, but suddenly I fell to the ground gripping my stomach as if my life depended on it. A cold sweat broke out along my face as I shivered involuntarily. A dull thud resonated in the back of my skull and heat scorched through me painfully.

Flames danced around my vision and smoke clogged up my lungs, but that wasn't what was making escape impossible. It was the feeling as if every inch of me was dying. Organs shutting down, air growing thin, and heart pitter pattering slowly and even more slowly like it was on the brink of stopping.

"Wouldn't falter---," I murmured leaning heavily on the ax.

My own strength can't support me anymore as I flop to the ground. Gripping the ax at all is a miracle because my arms feel loose, spaghetti noodles swaying this way and that as if a lullaby is playing. You know what they say about zombies, one bite and you were theirs forever.

Idiot! This was not some training exercise yet I still let those freaks give me a love tap. The director would have to kill me for this... I was as good as dead already.

The bite on my thigh was an ugly, scarlet mark set against pale skin. It looked infected... infected. I couldn't move and I slowly thought I was going to be burned alive with these creatures. Did I falter? My mind became more animal, predatory and now I felt only need. A need stronger than any other. Hunger...
