As the faint chirps of birds filled through her bedroom, Jeanne slept in her bed casually, dreaming about what girls dream about. The morning was just beginning, it was the Sunday before school started so that meant her mother and her had the day together; they would go shopping for new clothes to start off the school year. Her oldest sister Abigial, already graduated, would tag along with them today as Jeanne had asked her the night before to. She had only asked her because she knew that Abigail would give her honest answers to outfits she tried on.

Tomorrow was the day she would begin her junior year. Being a junior provided a sort of change in the town she lived in. It meant that you were no longer that annoying freshman, or the cocky sophomores, but you were finally seen as a equal to the others and the decisions you make all predict the outcome of your senior year.

Most kids by the end of freshman year had already gained nicknames and learned where they ranked in the school. There was the smart, popular people who every one wanted to be, then the outcasts that was anyone from being a pothead to a nerd, and then there was the mutuals that neither stood out nor gained recognition. Jeanne became one of the mutuals as her test scores usually ranged to a B, though she would get an occasional C. She never tried to look her best, just wore her hair up and the usual t-shirt and jeans.

But she had told herself over summer that she would try to stand out, but without changing herself as a person. She didn't want to become someone that she wasn't.

The approach of running feet made her eyes slowly open, but they flew open as her door slammed open. Her youngest siblings ran and began jumping on her bed. They were twins, with similar names; Richie and Archie, both were 6 years old.

"Jean! Mommie told us to come get you up!" Richie laughed loudly as he spoke, his chubby cheeks getting red from jumping.

Archie had stopped jumping and began pulling on Jeanne's arm, "Come onnnn Jeannnn!" He had a bad habbit of whining until he got what he wanted.

Sighing heavily, Jeanne slipped out of her bed and grabbed both boys, then dumped them outside of her door, "Tell mom I'll be down in a few." They nodded eagerly and ran down the stairs.

After they left, she shut her door and looked over at her reflection in the mirror that hung on top of her dresser.

I have such a weird face. My eyes are blue, but not schockingly blue.. My hair is eh.

She shook her head and got dressed for the day. Since it was summer and today was supposed to be horrible in temperature, she chose blue jean shorts, that cut to about mid thigh. Nothing too revealing, and she chose a regular black t-shirt.

Glancing one time at her reflection, she finished getting ready and then went downstairs.

As her mother, Abigail, and her walked into the clothing store, Jeanne began looking at the clothes. Her mother had left the sisters alone in search of things for Jeanne to wear.

"You know, you should really try to show more skin." Abigail looked at her as she paused looking through clothes.

"I'm wearing shorts." Jeanne replied a little too snappy.

"Calm down there. I was just making a suggestion." She threw up her hands in frustration. The two of them fought often. "I mean you're not pale or anything, you have a nice little tan."

Jeanne just glanced at her sister, then continued looking through clothes.

After trying on numerous outfits, Jeanne had only found a select few appealing to her. They were getting ready to go to check when she noticed Abigail putting some of the clothes Jeanne had said no to into their basket.

"What are you doing?" Jeanne questioned her, with a hint of curiousity in her voice.

"What does it look like I'm doing? I'm doing you a favor. These looked really good on you, but your stubborn ass won't accept them." Abigail had become irritated after an hour and a half of Jeanne saying no to most of the clothes.

Jeanne shrugged her shoulders and pushed the cart to the checkout.

She looked at the ground as the cashier began scanning items. Her mother cleared her throat and elbowed her in the side causing her to look up.

The cashier had been watching her while she stood there awkwardly. His hair was cut short, and was dark brown with a hint of blonde, but it matched perfectly with his brown eyes that shone brightly. He smiled at her, and that's when it hit her.

She looked away in shock.

Oh shit. Oh shit. OH SHIT. She put her hands in her pocket as her hands had began to shake. That's Josh Smith. Why did he look at me? Do I have something on my face? Unconsciously she began to feel her face and she heard a chuckle.

Her head shot up immediately. He pointed to the door, a small smile playing on his features.

"Your mom and sister kept calling you but you were tuned out. They just went outside. Maybe you should look up every once in a while." He smile at her, not in a 'wow you're a freaking weirdo' way, but a way that a friend would do to another friend.

Jeanne felt her face turn bright red and she practically ran out the door as fast as she could.

"Oh hey look who finally decided to come back to reality." Abigail remarked as Jeanne dove into the car.

"Shut up, Abbie." Jeanne muttered the retort quietly, her face still bright red.
