vi: icy fear

Icy fear encircles

her heart squeezing

and contracting in her

chest, scaring her to death.

That boy, Humphrey,

gave her his number

four days ago. She,

Ally, is itching to call

him but she won't;

she can't.

Because there's a

chance that if she calls him

something might spark

between them igniting

a friendship or... something

more and she can't have that.

Disaster would strike.

She's seen it happen to

friends and family. Watched

them as they tore those they

swore to love a part. Heard

the ugly vulgar words they'd

screamed at those they were

supposed to cherish. Felt the

pain (and self-hatred)

they felt when their lovely's

whole world came crumbling

down.

No, a simple what if,

what could be, what might

happen couldn't happen at

any cost. She and Humphrey

weren't meant to be anything

more than a coffee addict and

a tea enthusiast in the same

little café. Nothing more, nothing

less.

Yes, that was it. No new starts.

No mind boggling relationship to mess

up her schedule. No exceptionally attractive

boy to muddle up her mind. No stolen glances

or chaste kisses on the lips. Everything would remain

as it was: quiet, boy less and without risk(s).

Ally was certain that this was best

for everyone yet she couldn't stop

thinking that she'd made a mistake.

Icy fear encircles

her heart squeezing

and contracting in her

chest, scaring her to death.
