Prelude
Some people write diaries to remember the happiest days of their lives.
I write because I'm afraid I'll forget the painful ones.
My name is Athena Montemayor.
When I was eight years old, I lost both of my parents in what everyone called a tragic car accident. The police closed the case. The investigators found no foul play. My relatives mourned, accepted the truth they were given, and slowly moved on.
Everyone...
except me.
For years, I lived believing that someone stole not only my parents but also the life we were supposed to have. I carried questions no child should ever have to ask, trusted people I never should have trusted, and hated someone who, I believed, had taken everything from me.
Maybe I was wrong.
Maybe I was right.
That was exactly what I intended to find out.
This diary is not a collection of perfect memories. It is filled with doubts, fears, wrong assumptions, quiet victories, broken hearts, and truths I wish I had never uncovered.
If you're reading these pages, I only ask one thing.
Please don't judge the little girl who wrote the first entries.
She was only trying to make sense of a world that stopped making sense when she was eight.
This...
is my story.
This...
is Athena's Diary.
