Do you love me?

Prologue

It was raining heavily.
The lightning illuminated the sky, making it feel like even the Gods were watching.

A girl waited in the cafe, checking her watch as she sipped her coffee.

He is late. Again.

The door opened and a guy stumbled in, soaking wet.
He looked at the girl and gave a sheepish grin and then mouthed a "Sorry"

The girl smiled at his grin

How does he do that? And manage to give me butterflies?

The boy sat down next to her and asked
" Why did you call me, June?"

The girl took out her phone. And showed him her email.
It was from the London School of Ecomomics, which said that they were willing to offer her a scholarship.

The guy looked sad " So, are you going?"

Juniper had  expected him to ask the stupid question
" Yes! I will! You don't get accepted to the LSE everyday! "

Then her tone changed
"  Axel. I think we should break up"

There was pindrop silence.

I have to do it. Its for the future I have always wanted.

" What?" Axel asked, startled.

Just tell it all. I am tired of him and his antics. He is just holding me back from achieving what all I want.

" I am serious. Axel, I think its time we called it off" Juniper said, her voice grave

" Yeah June, nice joke" Axel chuckled, but stopped when Juniper didn't  reciprocate.
" Explain it" He said.

Well. He is ready to listen.

" Axel. I am tired of your childish habits. Especially with your lack of seriousness. You always take stuff casually, without bothering about others. You just barge recklessly and expect us to clean the mess you leave behind. You cannot even take care of yourself, let alone me!
You keep fiddling around like a 10-year old and expect me to bear with it?!
I expected you to grow up, but it has been TWO years, and you are still here, with no place to go, no college to study in, just your parents to bear you!!
I would have already been studying in an Ivy league or Oxbridge if it weren't for you! I always wanted us to succeed , not just me!
You are still late like you used to be, still with that sloppy attitude!
All the time you cry about me not being there, when all I am doing is working for a future!
I never had good parents like yours, so I am trying to do something to stand on my own!
Its always the same story, I am unable to do anything because YOU hold me back!
You want me to leave LSE for you? What a joke. Dude, you seriously are not worth it. Not worth my time. Nor my attention and care.
Go stick with that sore loser girl who was your ex, not me.
I don't want to handle your bullshit anymore.
I wanna be free.
So, Axel Vector, I believe its time I wanna call it off with you.
Knowing you, you would go stick with  some other girl the moment I leave.
Goodbye!"

Juniper slammed the table and got up, sensing that everybody in the cafe was looking at her.
She pushed the door open and left, leaving a teary eyed Axel behind.

Amazing. Can't believe I actually said all that. But he deserved to know all of it.

Juniper was walking towards her home when somebody grabbed her arm and pulled her backwards.
It was Axel

Why is he here? No, not again..

" I am sorry, June" Axel said

Again. He does it again. This time I don't want his apologies.

" Axel. I do not want anything. I just want to cut off all ties" Juniper said, tired.

" And what about our memories? The long walks across the beach? The time when we spent hours under an umbrella talking about our future? Our first kiss we had? The time we spent at our favourite ice cream shop? The times when we bunked school. And the times when..."

What an idiot.

" Let me correct you, for once and for all." Juniper interrupted him.

Axel stopped speaking, his face painted with grief

" Memories with you serve as a reminder of tough times with you. The time we spent under the umbrella was when we were drenched in the rain because YOU did not want to go home. It was MY first kiss, not yours. Get the point? And about bunking school, I never enjoyed it, I just went along with it because YOU liked it.
I hope you got your answer."
She said, turned around and started walking, leaving a very pale Axel behind.

" Please June, I am really sorry"  He pleaded

" No point in apologising Axel, I am done with you"

"Please! A chance is all I want. I promise I will change"

Juniper turned around and saw Axel kneeling, his head bowed as he pleaded for forgiveness.

"Sorry Axel. We were never meant to be"
