Ancient Egyptian Afterlife

The Ancient Egyptians were polytheistic, with about 2,000 gods and goddesses.  They also believed in the afterlife. They called their eternal resting place “The Land of the Two Fields”.

Anubis was the god of the afterlife and mummification. He had the head of a jackal and the body of a human. Many Egyptian gods had animal heads and human bodies, but some did not.  For example, Horus was the hawk-headed god of war, but his mother, Isis, goddess of motherhood and magic, was never portrayed with an animal’s head and a human’s body.
