Chapter 3(R.E): Mayhem and Responsibility

Start from the beginning

I pressed the button on the key, and the car beep in respond unlocking itself. I opened the door and got in, the car might be convertible but David almost never drove it without the roof over his head. I lowered the roof back and saw David coming out of the house with something in his hands. Which he threw at me again, it landed besides the only other seat in the car, I grabbed it. It was a pack of marshmallows.

"Gonna need something to bribe Nicky" he shouted from the door. Yeah, the little she-devil have the knack to snitch unless you clogged her down with the things she like to eat. Namely, marshmallows. "Thanks" I waved the pack of sweet gluten goodness at him. I started the car, feeling the wheel vibrating as it roared to life, smiling as I drove off.

First priority was my tux and Nicky's dress for the party from the dry cleaners. I'm not keen on getting a full blown scolding if the shop closed on me and didn't get them. The shops were closing in earlier today since the annual party was occurring, everybody was busy preparing for it.

It was 2:10 now so my panic was double. Thankfully though it was still open, it had me sinking in the leather seat in relief. I saw lady approached the front door from the inside. She flipped the sign from "open" to "closed" I honked the car twice gaining her attention, I parked the car on the available slot of their parking lot. I got out and rushed to her opening the door.

"Sorry, but I'm here to pick up a tux and a dress" I said. She eyed me annoyed with her arms crossed. I sighed to myself. She looks like she required an offering before acknowledging what I said.

"I'm sorry, but were closed right now. Come back tomorrow" she said, her voice had a snarl to it. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at how obviously she was failing to hide it. She made a move to closed the door on me but I held on to it strong. When her attempt wasn't working she sighed heavily and her facade of a smile disappeared.

"Sir!" Her voice was like nails scratching on a board. I was starting to be impatient with her, I was telling my side of the story but she just wouldn't budge. Our little argument got heated but I was not going back without them.

She looks like almost had about it until a voice that I was so glad to hear. "Jonathan?" I ignored the ugly look the lady besides me was giving, and focused on Mrs. Perkins. The shop owner.

"Hi! Emilia. I'm here to pick up my tux and Nicky's dress" I said, a relief smiling appeared on my face. She smiled in return too. "I was wondering when will you show up. I was thinking of driving it off to your house myself" she said. I bit of guilt flooded me. "I kinda overslept. Sorry" I replied, scratchingbthe back of my head.

She waved her hand. "That's quite alright. Growing boys needs a lot of sleep" she laughed it off, and turned towards her employee. "Gwen, take the last two from the back and bring it here" she ordered. The woman look reluctant to do it but it was her job. It was wrong because she probably just closing up, ready to go home but I couldn't stop a victory smirk forming on my face. The merciful thing was to not let her see it, but she made the mistake of looking back at me. Whoops.

I had small talks with Emilia until the the lady named "Gwen" came back with my tux and Nicky's dress. She was less than happy handing it over to me. She'll get over it.

I said my thanks again to Emilia and excused myself. She nodded smiling as she walked me out of the shop. I waved at her one last time before getting into the car, driving away to pick Nicky up.

The fact that it was 2:46 pm, I was beginning to worry if her friend's mother called our mom to pick Nicky up, I might need to make my peace to the next life. Mom's definitely gonna kill me. Nicky is seven years old, and the only other girl in the family so mom and dad are extra protective about her as both me and David too. Though Me and David are no exception in mom and dad's wrath.
