I watched all of the people pass.

Just people, I thought. They weren't really just people. They all had their problems. But they all seemed to hide it by buying new clothes and new accessories or venting to people on their phones. Typing frantically about their boyfriends breaking up with them or possibly even firing someone. Over the phone.

I want to get out of New York so bad. This town where no one looks up from their phones. I want to be noticed. Plus, everyone knows me. I can't even get a job! For my 13 years of living, everyone has got to know that girl in the ally or that girl in the dumpster or even that dirty girl. I have tried so hard to get a job. It started out as, "Your clothes are too dirty." Or I had gotten a job and then quit from sexual harassment or some other "illegal thing".

What is a homeless girl supposed to do if I can not get a job or find a nice family? I want to be noticed. I want to be where no one else knows me. With no job, no friends, or no one that would help me do it even, it can be very hard to get across the country.

The rant inside my head got interrupted by a soft but wet drip on the tip of my nose. I rose my chin to look at the clouding sky.

Great I thought, knowing it is only sprinkling now, but will start raining very soon, meaning I will have to find shelter. The ally way I was crouched in with my pillows and blankets, that were oozing stuffing out of every rip it could possibly escape from, provided very little, if you would consider it any, coverage and it was the only one that didn't allow raccoons and flees as guest in the dark dungeon that I was sure of.

I looked at the boxes that I had in the strip but they were soggy and wrinkled from the last time it had rained. The only thing that came to mind was the dumpster.

I looked around once more to see if there were any other options, but since they were limited, I was left with no other choice.

I tugged on my blanket to pull closer around my shoulders. I looked around at the soulless people and then at the sinking sun as it blinded me perfectly between two buildings.
