I step off the porch, my boot hitting the ground with a somewhat audible thud. I take another step, the morning dew getting thrown from the toe of my shoe along with the soggy leaves which had fallen to the ground. I breathe in and feel at peace. The sweet, crisp, cold Autumn air makes me feel at home. This being my favorite time of the year, I choose to get up earlier to walk to school rather than being stuck in a stuffy bus, even if it is warm. I don't mind walking alone it's peaceful and gives me that time I need from my rather large family. I take my normal route through the woods, but I have a weird feeling. Usually i'm not this uncomfortable to be alone, but I almost feel like i'm being watched. I stop and look around but I don't see anything I go to take a step forward but a branch snaps behind me making me spin around. In the somewhat light of dawn I make out what looks to be a fairly large shadow... with golden eyes. The low pitch growl sends a shiver down my spine and the sounds of branches breaking underneath the creature make my heart race.
I take off down the path not looking behind me. The sound of heavy legs pounding into the ground behind me, becoming closer and closer. The treeline was only steps away and I could see the lights of my small town ahead of me. Despite my throat burning and heart pounding, I push through and escape the forest not stopping still. I trip and fall into the road only feet away from the treeline. The beasts eyes glowing gold and approaching more. My thoughts were quickly interrupted as I see headlights becoming closer to my right. I look over and see a truck about to hit me... my heart drops to my stomach. I go to move ,the brakes screeching. The bumper only inches from my head... I close my eyes... Then silence. I slowly open my right eye leaving the other half of my face scrunched up. The car is literally inches from my face yet I still can't bring myself to move.
"Bella! Isabella?! Oh my god are you okay?" a frantic but recognizable voice yells.
"Yeah, i'm fine" I look up and see none other than my wonderfully annoying twin brother Mason.
"What the hell were you thinking Bella?!"
"You're kidding right?"
"Does it look like i'm kidding!? I literally almost killed you"
"but ya didn't" I stand up giving an awkward smile and finger guns.
"Get in the damn truck, I'm driving you the rest of the way" He basically growls and I let out a sigh of defeat getting into the passenger side of his old truck. The ride to the school was completely quiet the rest of the time. I put my earbuds in and stared out the window. Even after my near death experience... I couldn't get those eyes out of my head... or that low raspy growl.
"BRAKE CHECK!" My face gets sent forward hitting the dashboard.
"Mason!" I yell pressing my hand on my forehead
"That's what ya get, you almost got ran over you could have at least put a seat belt on" I roll my eyes and slouch down in the seat holding my head in my palm.
We pull into the school parking lot but before I jump out Mason locks the doors.
"Promise you're okay?"
"Yeah, i'm sorry that it happened"
"it's okay dweeb, let me know if you need me"
"Thanks" I smiled "time to pretend we don't know each other" I laugh pulling up on the door lock and jump out of the truck causing a small splash on the concrete from the rain the previous night. I begin walking to the somewhat dreary school, my steps small. I don't have many friends other than my small group, but even then we don't really get to talk much.
"Well look what we have here boys" an all to familiar voice chuckles behind me, but I continue walking. Someone grabbed my backpack spinning me around.
