Stiles and Alec were best friends since they were kids. They practiced, trained together and did anything that best friends would do. They were close, almost as close as if they were each other's parabatai. Or at least that's what Alec thought as Stiles just had very deep feelings for him.

But when Stiles moves away to a small town in California, Alec is heartbroken and distant. So, when Stiles comes back five years later, Alec feels as if their bond is gone and he isn't to be trusted.

Stiles wants to repair what the two had, and wants to gain his trust, but it's sort of difficult, seeing as Alec has built up a tower of walls and Stiles had become very secretive about why he left, so everything goes awry.

However, when they go on their first mission together and bring back a mundane, who could be able to see them and cause trouble in the future, Stiles wonders if all hope is lost for the two.

Especially when he realizes Alec has feelings for Jace, who is oblivious about Alec's feelings.

Stiles wonders if their friendship was ephemeral.
