Andrea's POV [An-drE-uh]

Chapter Status: Edited

I rummaged through all my belongings, wondering how to start my day. I could read a book. Or, I could do nothing and stay in my room all day. Oh maybe I'll actually go downstairs and say something helpful to everybody! Nope.

Nothing I say will be helpful nor correct. I remember when I was but a little girl. I was at home with my lovely first parents; I had just came from school and asked if I could go to a friend's house. The answer was simple. A beating.

I also remember when I had gotten kicked out of the house for an F on a test that I tried to study for. Of course, I couldn't due to the fact that I was stuck doing chores for my 'mother'.

Maybe I'll just read a book? That's exactly what I'll do.

Sometimes I think things would change. Maybe--just maybe--I could be a man and tell the world what I'm thinking. Let everyone know that I'm okay. But the problem is? I'm not.

I'm not some normal 17 year old girl who goes to parties and spends her time talking on the phone to all her oh so popular friends. And I never will.

"Andrea! Come downstairs, we have a surprise for you!" I heard my mother call. My knuckles banged twice on my dark blue walls, signifying that I understood.

Quite hastily, I thudded down the carpeted stairs and into the living area. I immediately spotted my family members. They were in a quite secretive conversation with stern looks on their faces--even my 14 year old sister. Emily. Her chestnut hair bounced as she looked up and nodded frequently towards my mother.

My father who was diligently explaining something to my sister, noticed me right away over the shoulder of my mother's costly peach cardigan.

His expression changed. I could tell the smile on his face was fake.

"Andrea! Happy 17th birthday! Aren't you excited!" My eyebrows crinkled in confusion.

"For what?" I signed quickly with my small hands. I don't bother slowing down for my family anymore knowing that they knew exactly what I was trying to say.

"For.." My mother trailed on with a smile.

"A One Direction concert !" Emily shouted with delight. She genuinely looked happy and cheerful while my parents seemed as if they weren't at ease and had millions of things on their minds.

I felt my dry lips crack into a smile as my fingers speak words of thanks.

What is a mute girl going to do at a concert? I can't scream I love you to any band members. I can't scream with joy. I can't even ask for someone to scoot a bit so I could see through all the jumping.

At least I can experience something fun.

I embraced my loving family in a warm hug, one we haven't had in a while.

My cold and wet toes tapped against the marble floor of my bathroom as I quickly took a fluffy white towel from one of the wooden storage units under the sink and dried myself. Today was going to be amazing.

It had only been about two days since I was given my birthday present and I was too excited, I couldn't stop smiling!

Swiftly, I shimmied on a fitting pair of black skinny jeans and one of my favorite band shirts. I remember receiving it when I actually socialized, when I had friends. My best friend--my only true friend--in fact, had given it to me very abruptly before she had left. I remember crying that day. There I was, thinking, knowing, that I wasn't going to see her again.
