DAKOTA WHITE WAS BORN INTO THE CHINOOK TRIBE in Washington. Her father was Dasan White. His name seemed quite fitting as it meant chief, and he was exactly that. Dasan White was a kind and loyal man. He cared for nothing more than for the safety of his people and it was always what Dakota had admired most about her father. It was what made him the strong leader that he was.

At the early age of thirteen, Dakota shape-shifted. She was the first female and youngest in her tribe to have ever shifted. It wasn't common for women with the gene to shift, but that wasn't the case for young Dakota. This caused Dakota to be looked at differently. Suddenly, she was no longer the normal girl she once was in the eyes of others. She was odd and peculiar. Nonetheless, she was trained by the pack to protect her tribe from their enemies, the cold ones.

Shifters only ever had one true enemy, vampires. They looked like man, but were as hard as stone and as cold as ice. They fed on the blood of the innocent and killed for their own pleasure. For two years, Dakota proved herself to be a fierce spirit warrior, killing all and any threats to her tribe. Dakota was praised. "The chief's young daughter, protector of the Chinook tribe," they used to say. It was all until the day that she became the threat herself.

One night while on patrol, the pack was ambushed by the cold ones. Dakota had been split up from her alpha and outnumbered. What should have been a harmless bite, turned out to be the complete opposite. That entire night she laid on the ground, screaming in excruciating pain while her pack watched as they waited for her impending death that never came. That night the young wolf turned into a hybrid. She had become the one thing that she despised most. She had become the one thing her family hated. A dirty blood-sucker.

Dasan White banished Dakota from their tribe that very same night. She was now nothing more than a flithly vampire and the enemy didn't belong in Chinook. Casted away, Dakota began to search for sanctuary. She had gone to other tribes, but each had turned her away just as her own had done. She even went as far as seeking out covens of vampires, but it proved to be useless and Dakota eventually gave up trying.

Alone, the young hybrid had to learn how to control her blood lust. Her body constantly craved for the red substance but she had refused to ever feed on humans. Fortunately, she could survive on human food as well but she fed on animal blood every once in a while to maintain her strength and to keep herself from ripping into anyone's jugular. Everytime she dug her teeth into a poor, innocent animal she felt utterly disgusting.

Dakota became a nomad of sorts. Having no where to truly call home, she wandered from place to place. She never stayed in one place for too long for she would be bound to cross into the territory of a pack or coven of vampires. By this point in her life, she never even bothered trying to look for a home. She assumed this is what she was destined for, to be a lone wolf.

She got used to being unwanted, it's not like she hadn't felt it before. Her own mother, Haley, never even wanted her. Dakota's father fell in love with an outsider. She wasn't a part of their tribe. She was just a girl from some small town in the middle of Oklahoma. According to her father, Dakota was a spitting image of her mother. She had her mother's small button nose and strong, high cheek bones. She even had her plump red lips and rosie cheeks. Dakota had much paler skin compared to the russet skin of those in her tribe and her father. She was the whitest of them all and members teased her and called her Snow White because of it. The only traits that the hybrid did inherited from her father were her long, raven hair and the shape-shifter gene.

When Dakota's mother revealed she was pregnant, she wanted to terminate the pregnancy. She didn't want a child and she no longer wanted to be apart of Dasan's life. She felt trapped living in the small life of a tribe that she wasn't apart of. She left Oklahoma to escape that small town life, but she didn't know that she was running towards her old life. Dasan, of course, begged Haley to keep the baby. Haley was carrying a part of himself. He promised her that the second that she gave birth to the child she could leave and he would never ask her for a thing. So the days after Dakota was born, Haley was never seen or heard from again.

Dakota White was an enigma to her tribe. Dakota knew she was always somehow different from the others in her tribe and that caused her to be looked at differently, as if she was an outsider herself. Eventually she became just that. However she was no longer just an outsider to her tribe but an outsider to everyone. She didn't seem to belong anywhere anymore.

Perhaps it was her destiny. She was meant to be alone since the moment she came into this world and becoming what she was had been written in her faith.

Maybe Dakota White had become what she was supposed to be all along...

A monster.
