Beep, beep, beep.
With an angry groan, I slammed my fist onto my alarm clock to silence its incessant beeping as I rolled out of my bed and onto the cold, hard floor beside it. I shuffled into my bathroom, my slippers scuffing the floor, and I almost had a heart attack when I saw myself in the mirror. My hair was knotted and plastered to my face, dark circles had made a home under my eyes, and dry saliva coated the outer corner of my mouth. Wow, what natural beauty, I thought sarcastically. Constantly having a jarring appearance in the morning was part of the reason I hated the time of day so much.

I quickly made myself look presentable before going into the kitchen to grab myself a quick breakfast.

There was a brown paper bag on the kitchen counter and I was delighted as I pulled out my favourite muffin of all time. I glanced at the clock on the wall and let out a curse under my breath. I definitely slept too long, I was running late.I hurried to the bus stop. I was just about to take a huge bite out of my blueberry muffin as the bus rolled to a stop right in front of me. Hopping up the stairs, I took a seat beside my best friend - Carly.

"Is everything okay, Carly? Did something happen to you? You look kind of... tired." To tell the truth, Carly looked more than tired. Her pale face, drooping eyelids, and thin, trembling lips told me she looked as if her favourite hamster had died. She was slouching in her seat, her fragile shoulders rolled forward as if the weight of the world were lifted onto them.

"I'll tell you later, okay? I'm just not feeling very well."
I gave Carly a strange look but decided to leave it for now. Like she always did, she would explain eventually when she was ready to tell me, but I already had a feeling it has something to do with Ashton Drew.

Ashton was the most popular boy at our school and captain of the champion basketball team. He had bronze hair, aquamarine eyes, and a smile that made every girl swoon. Well, almost every girl - I wouldn't consider myself one of his worshippers. I saw right through his facade; he was nothing more than a player who used girls' bodies for validation. Acting like he was extremely in love with them, he would just end up fucking them and moving on to his next victim as if nothing had ever happened - as if he hadn't shared anything special with the girl, as if she hadn't trusted him enough to let herself become vulnerable in front of him.

Unfortunately, my best friend had an unhealthy crush on him since she was 16 years old and just couldn't see what a bad person he really was, no matter how often I tried to tell her. She even dragged me to one of his basketball games for two specific purposes: to look at his toned body and to rape him with her eyes. Needless to say, she fell for his act when he asked her out two weeks ago. Ever since they started dating ten days ago, Carly couldn't stop talking about him every minute, 24/7. Not only that, but she grinned like the Cheshire Cat at the mere thought of him. Now, however, I could see she had been crying up until the early hours of the morning. Her eyes were still puffy and red, even if she did her best to cover it up with makeup. My heart broke a little seeing her so devastated and unlike her bubbly self. My stomach dropping, I yearned to make her feel alright.

After minutes of silence, the bus stopped with screeching brakes at the next station, and no other than the Ashton Drew made his way inside. Immediately, all the girls began to toss their hair back and applied another coat of their sticky lip gloss to try and impress him. I just rolled my eyes at such idiocracy, not understanding how they would want to impress someone so putrid. As Ashton walked past our seats, winking at a girl with long, bleach blonde hair and not even acknowledging us, Carly let out a sob, buried her face into the crook of her arm, and looked the other way. Sympathetically, I extended my own hand and began to lightly stroke her back. Eventually quieting her sobs, she relented to continuing staring out of the window with a sad expression on her beautiful face.

In the meantime, Ashton had found his usual seat in the back of the bus beside his best friends, James and Kyle, and started chatting with them regarding various basketball tactics I cared nothing about.

Ten minutes later, the bus pulled up in front of our school, and before I had the chance to ask Carly what had happened to her, she bolted out of the bus like greased lighting, mumbling something about not wanting to be late for first period. Shaking my head about that stupid excuse, I casually made my way to my locker and retrieved the necessary books. Glancing in the mirror I had attached to my locker, I brushed one of my hands through my thick, dark brown curls in an attempt to tame them a bit. My reflection disappeared as my locker was suddenly slammed shut, and a familiar grin blocked my view. Ashton Drew leaned right next to my locker, happily showing me his pearly-whites.

"What do you want?" I asked, rather rudely to confess.

"I want you under me, screaming my name in pure ecstasy," he replied with a cocky wink sent in my direction. My toes curled at his pervertedness, and I shirked back.

I narrowed my eyes at him, shouting "You are a disgusting human being, Ashton Drew!"

He just laughed. "You asked me what I want from you, and I was just being honest! If you're looking for your friend Cassy, I just saw her running inside the bathroom. Maybe we could go after her and have a steamy threesome?"

"Her name is Carly, you ignorant prick, and I would never have sex with you - not even if you were the last person on planet earth." I grit my teeth together and resisted the urge to crush his foot under my own.

Not even waiting for his response, I stormed down the corridor to the toilets. Right as I stepped inside, I could hear someone heaving a sob in one of the bathroom stalls. Softly, I knocked on the door.

"Carly? Are you in there?"

The door swung open, revealing my poor friend with mascara running all over her cheeks and tears in her baby blue eyes. Wordlessly, I embraced her in my arms and held her tight, not even thinking about letting go until she calmed down a bit.

"He dumped me, Nat," Carly whined and buried her head back into my shoulder, which was now completely soaked with her relentless crying.

"I figured that much. The douche-bag was audacious enough to flirt with me," Carly's head flew up and she let out a heart-breaking sob, staring at me with bloodshot eyes. I just looked at her sympathetically. "What did you expect Carly?

? I tried to warn you, but you didn't listen. It's what Ashton usually does. He gets bored of every girl he's ever been with."
Carly's eyes welled up with tears again, "I thought I were different." She sobbed.

I quickly embraced her into a tight hug once again, feeling really guilty for my harsh words.

"If there was anything I could do for you Carly, anything at all to make it hurt less..."

"There's nothing you can do Nat. I just wish he would suffer as much as I do now." Her words were mumbled as she rested her head against my shoulder. Suddenly she whipped her head up, her eyes widening.

"That's it!" She yelled.

I looked at her as if she were crazy, why the sudden mood swing?

"I'm afraid I can't follow you, Carly"

"You said you'd do anything for me, right?" Carly asked innocently. I was instantly on my guard. "Yes...?" I said it as a question, a little afraid of what she'd ask of me now.

"You could execute my revenge. You could start dating Ashton and you could break his worthless heart."

I looked at my best friend as if she were a different person. She had never been a vengeful person, nor had I ever seen with such determination and hatred in her eyes, I knew she wasn't joking around. She meant every word she said.

I swallowed hard but quickly made up my mind.

"I can try. I can break Ashton's heart for you."
