I have done it. After years of blood, sweat, and patience, I have finished. The new body I will inhabit.

The skin is soft to the touch like a human's, but cold from the lack of bloodflow. As it stands, it is nothing more than a corpse, but once I insert my soul into the lifeless pile of flesh, bones, and synthetic organs, it will be alive.

The outcome has yet to become concrete, but I have run out of patience. If I am successful, the small steps it took to reach here and now would be a large leap for humanity.

I feel my skin shiver from excitement. The body is nearly perfect. The worst case scenario seems nonexistent.

I pull the body from the stand before shoving it into the chair. I link the headband around its skull and take a deep breath. I lay on the table, connecting the wires to the required parts of my body.

My hand is shaking so hard. The button seems so far away and so close at the same time; almost as if it is teasing me. I finally muster as much stability as I can manage before smashing the button.

Almost instantly, it put me to sleep. I can feel my spirit rising out of my now pale, lifeless body. Pain is nonexistent, but stress and fear is a definite factor. To my right, monitors keep track of my heart and brain activity. So far, everything is normal.

I take a firm step away from the table and stare at my prototype. To this moment, I still do not know why I chose a male specimen rather than of my own sex. I suppose curiosity has the best of me.

I slowly graze my hand against the body's. It easily sinks in. I am surprised. I half expected some sort of feeling; whether it was painful or not was a different thought, but some sort of feeling to tell me what I was doing has meaning would be nice. I turn myself to align my spirit with the prototype before falling into it.

It is dark.

My eyelids feel heavy. My arms are anchors. I gather the small amount of strength I have and open my eyes. Clarity. My heart is beating fast, pumping blood through each cold artificial vein. I can feel my cheeks warm. My hands, although shaky, aren't as heavy. The rough skin I've touched and sculpted for years are now my own.

I raise from the chair and unlatch the headband. As I stand, I tower over my old body. Still alive. Machines can only go so far with hospitality. If I want to keep my old body healthy and... well, alive, I'll have to feed and take care of myself. As for this body, I am not sure yet. I was detailed with the digestive track, but how functional they are is out of my field of expertise until it's tested.

I open the door to the basement cautiously. The bright lights are blinding. In the dim lit basement, my vision seemed fine, if not, perfect, but being exposed to the fierce lightings makes me realize that only one of the two eyes work. While my right is clear and crisp, the left is blurry. I suppose the human soul does have its hand in the five senses. I'll have to make note of that later on.

What I mean by that is my original body was born with a "dead eye". It is still sensitive to light, color, and movement, but trusting myself to see through only the left makes me uneasy.

My eyes adjust quickly. I am not surprised. This body was meant to be sleek, strong, and sharp; not adapting to new environments would tell me that it needs working on.

I am still a bit tipsy, but that's to be expected for a newborn body. Despite it, I throw the front door open and embrace the cool, Autumn breeze. Nerves seem to be intact and working. I lock the door behind me. I feel in the mood for a walk.

Although dark out, it's only 7:30 in the evening; not that I can imagine myself going to sleep so early. This body has been dormant for three years.
