Mitch's POV
"Are you sure you've got everything you need?", mom asked me while we were at the front door.
"Yeah, mom. I'm gonna be fine, stop worrying about it, I'm just going on vacation, not joining the army!", I answered jokingly.
"Have fun, sweetheart and be careful! Give me or dad a call once you land.", she said before kissing me goodbye.
I took a taxi to the airport and started thinking about my vacation. It was the first time I was going on vacation alone and it felt kinda adventurous really. I was only 18 years old, so I didn't have much experience with adulthood yet. Me and my friends have decided to go on this trip together, but they decided to ditch me at the last moment. I still didn't know why, but I didn't care to be honest. They just wouldn't answer the phone or reply to my texts, until one day they called me and said they had to cancel their tickets. I wouldn't let go off this opportunity to travel, so here I am, sitting on a cold plane seat on my own. I wish there was someone here to hold my hand; I really hate planes.
Before I knew it we were flying. I decided that it would be better to relax and enjoy it, so I took my earphones out and started listening to random songs I found on my phone. Four or five songs later, I closed my eyes and let myself sleep for a while.
I woke up a couple hours later, only to find out that someone was sitting at the seat next to me. He was a boy around my age, with blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He seemed much taller than me and quite muscular. As I was looking at him, he slowly turned around to face me.
"Rise and shine, sunshine! I was just starting to think that you would be asleep during the whole flight!", he said laughing.
"Well, I guess I needed my beauty sleep. However, if I'm not mistaken, last time I was awake there was nobody sitting beside me.", I told him, trying to break the ice.
"I'll leave if you want me to."
"You can stay. I was just wondering what brought you here, stranger", I said with a smile.
"Call me Scott. Scott Hoying. Well, you see, I'm here by myself and there was no one in the seats next to me. I saw you sitting here alone and thought it was a good idea to come and say hi", he replied.
"Good thinking, then. It's a 12 hour flight after all. I'm Mitch by the way. Mitch Grassi", I said blushing. Why am I blushing?!
"So what brings a young boy like you in a plane full of strangers?"
"Vacation. And I'm not that young, I'm 18."
"Well, is 18 old enough to go on vacation on your own? To another continent?", he said with a smirk.
"I wasn't gonna go alone, my friends kinda ditched me. It's not like I had any other choices; I didn't want to cancel my ticket either, so here I am."
"If I told you that the reason I'm here is the same as yours, would you believe me?", he asked with a surprised tone in his voice.
"Nothing seems irrational I guess. Doesn't it bother you that your friends didn't care about you, though? That they let you go by yourself?", I asked him, finally sharing my thoughts with someone who understands.
"It did at first, a lot actually. But I've decided not to let it ruin my trip. I'm gonna be just fine on my own. Unless...", he said blushing. A lot.
"Unless...?", I encouraged him to finish his sentence.
"Unless you'd like to come with me." His face was red. Deep red.
"I'm afraid I can't". He seemed sad, and I would be lying to myself if I said that I wasn't sad as well. "I will only be in Spain for today. We can spend the day together though, if you want".
His face lit up a little. "Of course I want to spend the day with you! What do you want to do?". He seemed very excited.
"I've never been there before, so I guess some sightseeing?" He nodded. "We can try some local food afterwards and buy some souvenirs."
"Deal. When do you have to leave?", he asked. His eyed clouded a bit.
"Around 19:00."
I had to board on the boat at 20:00. I was going on a cruise, but I didn't tell him. I didn't know him that well. Yet. I was pretty excited to spend the day with him and even more excited to discover the countries and cultures of South Europe. Especially the Mediterranean countries. Well, I'm actually half Italian, but I've never been to Italy before.
I fell asleep again with a wide smile on my face and my hand slightly brushing against the blond boy's hand over the seat.
