According to some genius doctor, there are 5 stages of grief.
1.) Denial.
I can't do this. I don't want to do this.
2.) Anger.
I'm pissed that I have to do this.
3.) Bargaining.
I'd give a kidney not to have to do this.
4.) Depression.
I'm super sad I have to do this and its ruining my Netflix time.
5.) Acceptance.
It's only an hour. I can do this.
I huff as I push open the detention room door and find an empty seat.
Okay, so maybe I was being a tiny bit dramatic. But, I got detention for a ridiculous reason. All I did was tell the cafeteria lady the meatloaf resembled something that came out of a dog. In my defense, it did and I could've said something much more harsh. Cafeteria food sucks. Usually I bring my own food, but today I was running almost 2 hours late because my alarm was set for 6pm instead of 6am. Either way, the meatloaf looked like dog crap and smelled even worse and she decided to take offense.
My internal rant is interrupted when someone repeatedly pokes my shoulder.
"Can I help you?" I turn around, annoyed.
"What are you in for?" The messy haired guy, who was annoyingly poking me, smirks.
"I killed someone." I whisper.
He chuckles deeply. "Smart ass."
"I expressed my opinion about the meatloaf." I shrug.
"Looked like dog shit to you too?" He laughs. "I can get you out, at a small price of course."
"What's the small price?"
He smirks.
"Miss Williams, you can go." The detention teacher tells me.
"Here, I saved my number. Text me tonight." He winks and hands me my phone.
I roll my eyes, grab my things, and leave.
My beautiful car waits for me in the parking lot. The one good thing about having rich, absent parents is the gifts. For my sixteenth birthday my parents surprised me with Pearl. Pearl is my gorgeous Aston Martin. She's covered in a pearl colored exterior and pink leather. She's the perfect car. I've never been a girly girl and my favorite color is definitely not pink, but I love my car more than pineapple pizza. And that's saying a lot.

My parents always try to buy my love with luxurious gifts and money to make up for their neglect. It doesn't make me love them like they want, but it makes me comfortable while their gone.
My mother is a defense attorney and my father is a senator. They're pretty much the definition of a power couple. They're always working and living out of hotels.
I'm the complete opposite of both of them. I like my privacy and I like being alone. I don't like constantly being surrounded by people, unless they're friends. My parents want me to pursue a career in law or government. I have no interest in either.
I pull in my driveway to see that my parents are home. It's rare, but it happens.
I open the front door and throw my things at the bottom of the staircase.
"Hello egg donor. Hello sperm donor." I greet, as I enter the kitchen and grab a peach from the fridge.
"Hello Bailey." My mother rolls her eyes. "How are you, sweetie?"
"Just peachy." I hold up my peach.
"Well, your father and I are about to leave again. We're hoping to be back by the end of the month, but no promises."
"Okay." I fake a smile and say my goodbyes.
I grab my things and text Peyton on my way upstairs.
Me: Rents are leaving again soon. Bring coffee.
Pey: Order Chinese.
Peyton and I have been friends for almost 6 years. I could never ask for a better best friend.
I get upstairs and open the bedroom door next to mine.
"Lacey!" I grin as my 2 year old Samoyed jumps on me.

"He's so hot." Peyton groans.
"Yes, he is. So why haven't you tried to talk to him?" I ask, slurping down my Starbucks.
"I don't think I'm his type. His last girlfriend was some model looking cheerleader from Crestwood." She frowns.
"Ew, preppy people." I cringe. "Either way, you're everyone's type.
She laughs. "Okay, I'll try to talk to him."
My phone vibrates with a text and I frown as I see who it's from.
Detention Buddy: It's after midnight. You had plenty of time to text me. I'm offended. :(
Me: Poor you. How'd you get my number?
Detention Buddy: I'm a stalker. ;)
Me: Okay? What do you want?
Detention Buddy: Depends on what you're offering. ;)
Me: I can offer you a nice death.
Detention Buddy: Wow. That's harsh. First the lunch lady and now me. Maybe you should consider seeing a psychologist.
Me: Maybe you should consider getting to the point.
Detention Buddy: I need your address.
Me: Wow, you really are a stalker.
Detention Buddy: I'm not, but I really need to speak with you. In person.
Me: I don't even know you.
Detention Buddy: Bailey, please. It's very important.
I sigh.
Me: Okay.
